Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War have a new weapon – the automatic pistol AMP63. MeinMMO shows you how to quickly unlock the gun and gives an initial insight into how powerful it is.
With a small update, the AMP63 arrived for Black Ops Cold War and the Battle Royale Warzone on the evening of June 1st. The automatic pistol is supposedly based on the Polish weapon PM-63, which serves as a personal defense weapon. Such handguns are generally not part of infantry combat but are carried by supply units or vehicle crews that can defend themselves with a personal defense weapon if necessary (via Wikipedia).
In Call of Duty, the automatic pistol is part of the hardest battles and must stand its ground on the front lines of the battlefield. MeinMMO shows you how to get the new weapon and provides a brief assessment of how strong the AMP63 is in Warzone and Cold War.
CoD Cold War & Warzone: Unlock AMP63 – In 30 Minutes
How do I get the weapon the fastest? You can obtain the AMP63 in various ways, but in Cold War’s zombie mode, it’s by far the quickest.
- Achieve 400 critical kills with pistols in Cold War’s zombie mode
Pack your favorite pistol in your loadout, start a normal round on one of the survival maps, and grill zombies with headshots until you go down. Repeat that a few times and you can complete the task in under 30 minutes. If you are not very experienced in the zombie mode, it may take longer. But even then, the zombie variant is still faster than the other gameplay ways to unlock it.
How else can I get the weapon? If you absolutely don’t want the zombie solution or are only playing Warzone, you can also get the AMP63 differently. Three more options are:
- Cold War Multiplayer: Kill 5 enemies with a pistol in 20 different completed matches.
- Warzone: Kill 5 enemies with a pistol in 20 different matches. (Best in Plunder)
- Purchasable bundle: Get the “Gamma Rays” bundle in the shop for 1,000 CoD Points (about €10)
Note: If you want to unlock the pistol in Cold War multiplayer, you must finish the matches. If you leave the round early, your pistol kills will not count towards progress. You can leave the Warzone Plunder mode once the kills are complete.
If you purchase the bundle in the shop, you will level up the weapon, but you cannot change the attachments. Only when you fully unlock the AMP63 can you make modifications to the weapon.
AMP63 is not a superstar in Cold War & Warzone
How does the AMP63 perform in Warzone? Two things to note:
- Yes, the AMP63 is available in an Akimbo version
- No, it cannot keep up with the Sykov after release
With the AMP63, the second automatic pistol arrives in Warzone, and some players feared (or hoped) that the weapon would be as “overpowered” (OP) at launch as the Sykov pistol. The AMP63 is quite strong, but forgives little and is thus difficult to play. Moreover, the pistol is not recommended as an Akimbo version – the damage with Akimbo is significantly reduced.
The problem with the AMP63 is its low rate of fire combined with the required chest hits for a kill. To achieve the high time-to-kill of 456 milliseconds with chest hits, all 7 shots needed for the kill must also hit the chest. If even one bullet hits lower, the time-to-kill rises to 532 milliseconds. Due to the low fire rate of 637 rounds per minute, the weapon also allows for no mistakes, and every missed bullet increases the time-to-kill by nearly 10 milliseconds.
Because of its low time-to-kill potential, the weapon’s stats look impressive. However, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, and it’s rather unlikely that the weapon will catch on with regular players. How does the AMP63 perform in Cold War? So far, no deep analyses of its stats have been found for Cold War multiplayer. When you watch some gameplay, the weapon seems quite strong, but it suffers from the small magazine of a maximum of 25 rounds. Its rather low rate of fire even lags behind the burst pistol Diamatti.
