Strongholds play an important role in the DMZ mode of Call of Duty: Warzone 2. These fortifications are heavily guarded, but also offer plenty of loot. MeinMMO explains how to gain access and what to consider.
What are Strongholds? Strongholds are locations with a strong enemy presence. You can find them in many different places in Al Mazrah. They are marked on your map with a tower symbol. However, you can also easily recognize them in the game, as they are guarded by many AI.
As you move close to a Stronghold, nearby enemies will be alerted. So, you should already expect massive resistance before you even gain access.
Therefore, you should not attempt to take a Stronghold without preparation. Bring field equipment, grenades, and other gear. Acquire a supply of armor plates and a few good weapons in the game. If you are not yet familiar with the DMZ, here is an overview of the Extraction mode.
In DMZ mode, you can unlock weapons without having to grind the multiplayer for hours.
Success with Keycards
How do I gain access to Strongholds? Storming a Stronghold is not so easy. First, you need to fight through a considerable number of enemies. But that’s not all; if you manage to break through to the fortification, you will be faced with locked doors.
You can open the doors in two ways:
- Access card at the Buy Station
- Take out AIs at the Stronghold
You can complete contracts and loot cash. For 5,000 cash, you can then purchase an access card at a Buy Station.
If you prefer a more direct approach, you can seek combat with AIs. If your enemies are nearby a Stronghold, they often drop an access card upon death.
This approach, however, carries significant risks, as the enemies are tough. If you’re unlucky, all your armor plates may be used up before you even enter the Stronghold.
What can I expect in a Stronghold? Once you successfully crack a Stronghold, further dangers await. The fortress is heavily guarded, and you will encounter more AI. Additionally, there are two guards with riot shields. Flashbangs work wonders here. In a team, you can easily overcome these challenges.
Is it worth it? Definitely! If you storm a Stronghold successfully and then escape safely from the DMZ, a lot of experience awaits you as a reward.
In addition, you will find plenty of cash, equipment, and weapons in Strongholds. Strongholds are a good way to reliably unlock new weapons.
