The big update 1.29 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone is online and brings a lot of changes. Additionally, Warzone and CoD MW are now going separate ways. MeinMMO presents you with the patch notes.
What came with update 1.29? After some speculations about what this update might bring, the patch notes are now set and they bring some surprises. The biggest one: Private matches for Warzone are now available.
Update 1.29 overview
- New playlists
- Private Warzone matches
- Separation of CoD MW & Warzone
- Warzone adjustments
- New graphics options for PC & consoles
- Other changes
However, the separation of the two games CoD MW & Warzone in preparation for the new Black Ops Cold War was completed with 1.29. What this all means and how it works, we will show you here on MeinMMO.
Call of Duty: Update 1.29 on 11/10 adjusts all aspects
When does the update come? The update has been online since this morning at 8:00 AM German time and you can download it now.
How big is it? In the patch notes, developer Infinity Ward does not specify the exact sizes of the data packages. We were able to determine the following sizes for PC and PlayStation 4:
- PlayStation 4: approx. 33 GB (CoD MW & Warzone)
- PC: approx. 31.5 GB (only Warzone)
A similar update size is expected for the Xbox.
What does the playlist look like? The update also updated the playlists and rotates especially in CoD MW. In Warzone, the last mode from the cool Halloween event has now also disappeared.
Modern Warfare
- Ground War – The standard version of the mega mode
- Gunfight – 3vs3 firefight variant
- Snipers Only – 6vs6 moshpit only with sniper rifles
- Position: Downhill and Kills – Position with points for kills
- Shipment 24/7 – The mini-map in the permanent moshpit
- Shoot House 24/7 – Rotating modes only on the map Shoot House
Warzone
- Battle Royale – Solo / Duo / Trio / Squads
- Plunder Trios
Warzone is now standalone and brings private matches
What does standalone mean? Warzone and CoD MW are now going their separate ways more or less. The biggest difference from before: You can now create your loadouts separate from CoD MW. If you change one of your equipment packages in Warzone, it will no longer affect CoD MW and vice versa.
The operator selection now also looks different. There are no more coalitions, and all characters belong to a faction. This means that your “random choice” of operators is no longer restricted to the coalition.
The game selection screen is also new and now shows Cold War, Warzone, and CoD MW, instead of the individual parts of Modern Warfare.
How do private matches work? One of the most exciting new features of the patch are the private matches. However, these are subject to certain restrictions, and you cannot freely start a private match and roam through Verdansk alone. To start your own match, you need a minimum number of players:
- For a standard Battle Royale, at least 50 players
- A Plunder game needs a minimum of 30 players
- For a Mini-BR, you need 24 players
You start the lobby and can then invite your teammates. They then choose a squad or can be randomly assigned. When you have enough people together, you can start the game.
The developers also mention in the patch notes that you should report any bugs you find in the new private matches. Matches may not yet be completely bug-resistant.
What else is there to know about Warzone? In addition to the major changes, the CoD makers also list various bug fixes and adjustments for Warzone:
- Gas grenades could sometimes affect thermal sights
- Exploit in the subway station Lozoff Pass fixed
- In Plunder, your parachute will now always open automatically to avoid exploits
- Exploit of the enhanced gas mask fixed
- The spotter scope glitch has been fixed
- No more Juggernaut tokens in the bunker quests
CoD adds graphics options and further adjustments
What are these graphics options? This option currently only applies to PC. Infinity Ward states in the patch notes: “To reduce hard drive space and patch sizes, high-resolution textures will be downloaded during gameplay in the form of on-demand streaming.” This means:
- You can now enable “On-Demand Texture Streaming” in your graphics options
- This only applies to players who have set their texture resolution to “High”
- The textures of weapons and operators will then stream when you need them
- You can limit the daily streamed data and the cache
If you want to take a close look at how this works, the Activision support on a website in English provides a detailed explanation.
Update 12:00 PM: With another in-game update, the “High-Resolution Package 1” is now available on PlayStation. This is recommended for players on PS4 Pro & PS5, to get better textures for operators and weapons in the game. If you press “Square” in the main menu of Modern Warfare, you will enter the data package selection and can download the texture package, which is approximately 25 GB in size.
Original message: In the game and on the support website, there are mentions of high-resolution options for consoles. However, no options can be found for the PS4 Pro, and nothing is mentioned in the patch notes. This option may only apply to the next-gen consoles, but has already been added in the background.
What else is there to know? Additionally, there are further adjustments, of which we will list the most important here:
- Gaz operator challenge from Season 4 should now work correctly (Gulag victories)
- Issues with the Office rank challenges from level 90 – 100 of Season 6 have been fixed
- A bug in the headquarters mode has been removed that led to longer respawn times
- Skin issues with the M4A1 and the tracer pack from the Sakura bundle have been removed
- The operator Griggs is now available in a purchase bundle
If you want to see the English patch notes in full length for yourself, you can find them here on an “Infinity Ward” website.
With what is probably the last major update before CoD Cold War, the developers of Infinity Ward bring a big batch of changes and separate Warzone from the premium title Modern Warfare. On November 13, Cold War arrives and the next CoD chapter begins. MeinMMO author Sven Galitzki experiences the transition this year as particularly painful. He has never been so indecisive about a new CoD as he is this year.
