In the beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the gunsmith is a bit buggy. This prevents you from unlocking 3 of the Lachmann weapons. However, there is a trick to make it work.
The beta test of Modern Warfare 2 is in full swing on PlayStation. Pre-orders can already take their first rounds. On Sunday evening, the open beta for PlayStation will start. The other platforms (Xbox and PC) will only be available next week.
In the first week, you can level up to rank 15, actually even up to level 16. The progress menu shows that the unlocks for level 16 are already available. Included: the Lachmann-556, which visually resembles the Grau 5.56 from Warzone.
However, there’s a catch: the weapon cannot be equipped in the gunsmith, even though developer Infinity Ward states on Twitter that the weapon is part of the beta (via twitter.com).
However, there is a small trick to use the gun in the beta anyway. We embed the German trailer for the beta here:

How can I use the weapon? Go to the “Weapons” tab and select one of your multiplayer loadouts. Choose a perks package that does not include the “Overkill” perk.
Change your primary weapon and use the shotgun “Expedite 12” here. The secondary weapon doesn’t matter.
Now select another perks package and change it this time to a package that includes Overkill. Now you automatically have the Lachmann-556 as your secondary weapon.
With the weapon, you can now unlock two more weapons: including the Lachmann-MP, which is quite clearly an MP5. The thing is very stable and fast.

Aside from that, the first beta phase runs without many bugs. The servers had a few small hiccups for a few minutes, and some players report crashes. Developer Infinity Ward is addressing the issues (via twitter.com).
If you want to take a look at the beta yourself, you also have the chance without pre-ordering. For PlayStation players, the second weekend (starting September 22) is even completely open beta. PC players can test for free starting September 24.
