In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone, many new weapons have been added since the release, which you cannot simply unlock through your level-ups. MeinMMO shows you the weapons with the challenges to unlock them and how long it takes approximately.
What kind of weapons are these? The hardcore first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the battle royale Warzone offer their players a large selection of weapons. However, not all of the guns can be unlocked through level-ups. Currently, you can unlock a total of 12 weapons through special challenges:
- RAM-7
- Grau 5.56
- CR-56 AMAX
- Striker 45
- VLK Rogue
- Holger-26
- Bruen Mk9
- Armbrust
- SKS
- Renetti
- Kali Sticks
Where can I find my progress? To check the weapon missions, go to your weapon selection and scroll all the way down in a weapon class. The new weapons always appear at the bottom of this list. Here you will find the missions with your progress.
Modern Warfare & Warzone – Unlock All Mission Weapons
Here you can find an overview of the weapons, along with a brief description and everything about unlocking them. To calculate the duration, we assume a time of 10 minutes per match. While some matches are shorter, finding players can sometimes take longer.
For all missions, you need a specific type of kills. Usually, a “Team Deathmatch” works best, as the tempo in this mode is high and promises many kills. However, sometimes objective modes like “Domination” or “Hardpoint” are worthwhile as well.
For free-to-play players, unlocking some weapons is a real problem. Use rotating modes that provide more player contacts, such as the 50vs50 Rumble or the MW mode during a free weekend. The Grau 5.56 is one of the strongest weapons in the BR and easy to unlock.
Unlocking RAM 7 – Assault Rifle India
What kind of weapon is this? The RAM-7 arrived in Season 1 of Modern Warfare and has since been considered one of the best weapons for multiplayer. It has roughly the stats of the popular assault rifle M4A1, but fires faster and has a better Time-to-Kill (TTK) than the classic M4.
However, it feels a bit less stable to play and does not offer the wide range of attachments. This makes it somewhat weaker in Warzone.
How do I unlock the weapon? Get 2 headshots with an assault rifle in 25 different matches.
If you enjoy using the assault rifle, you probably already have this weapon. If not, grab an AR and get started. The 2 headshots should be doable in nearly every round.
How long does it take? To unlock the RAM-7, you need at least 25 matches, which is around 4 hours of gameplay with an assault rifle.
Unlocking Grau 5.56 – Assault Rifle Juliet
What kind of weapon is this? The Grau was introduced in Season 2 of the current CoD and ranks alongside the RAM-7 and M4A1 assault rifles. All 3 weapons share the same damage profile and have certain advantages and disadvantages:
- RAM-7: Lowest TTK, highest recoil
- M4A1: Flexible all-rounder
- Grau 5.56: Highest TTK, low recoil
The Grau compensates for its high TTK with other stats. It has the shortest aim time and the highest range among the light 5.56 assault rifles. This makes it a monster in Warzone, and calls for nerfs are getting louder. A developer has already hinted at a nerf recently.
How do I unlock the weapon? Get 25 kills with an assault rifle within a minute.
If you spend time in the chaotic “Shipment 24/7” playlist and have used an assault rifle a few times, you should probably already be able to play the Grau. Modes on small maps are particularly well-suited for unlocking.
How long does it take? Theoretically, you can unlock this AR in 25 minutes. Choose a playlist with small maps or modes where you know you will often encounter opponents.
Unlocking CR-56 AMAX – Assault Rifle Kilo
What kind of weapon is this? This assault rifle was newly introduced in Season 4 and belongs to the heavy ARs, such as the hardcore weapon AK-47 or the unusually large Oden.
It may not have the range of the AK, but it has a higher rate of fire and a more pleasant feel. This makes it very strong at medium to long range and usable in multiplayer and Warzone.
How do I unlock the weapon? The AMAX is part of the current Battle Pass for Season 4 and you need to reach level 31 to get the new assault rifle.
How long does it take? For one level of the Battle Pass, you need between 30 and 50 minutes, depending on your performance. It takes at least 15 hours of gameplay to secure the AR. If you do not earn much XP, it can take significantly longer.
You can progress faster during double XP events. Since the experience points in CoD MW 2019 are divided into 3 different categories – Account, Weapons, and Battle Pass – ensure that the “Battle Pass Tiers” are included.
For 150 CoD Points, you can also skip levels. That would cost around 1.50 € per level.
Unlocking Striker 45 – Submachine Gun Golf
What kind of weapon is this? The Striker was introduced in Season 2 of CoD MW 2019 and is a strong submachine gun for multiplayer.
The advantage of most SMGs over light assault rifles is their ability to get a kill with 3 shots instead of 4. This 3-shot range goes up to 22 meters for the Striker 45 in its base variant. Although it has a significantly higher TTK than the MP5 (194 ms vs. 144 ms), you can still benefit from 3-shot kills at relatively long distances.
How do I unlock the weapon? Get 2 kills while sliding with submachine guns in 15 different matches.
You need to pay attention to your gameplay and land some kills while sliding. The only way you can use hip-fire is a strong Run&Gun weapon.
How long does it take? If you can achieve the 2 slide kills in your matches, you will need around 2.5 hours. It might not always work well on larger maps, with longer paths to the opponent.
Unlocking Fennek – Submachine Gun Hotel
What kind of weapon is this? This SMG is part of the Battle Pass for Season 4 and comes with a fire rate of about 1,100 shots per minute (RPM).
Nevertheless, it plays comfortably, and the TTK is even close to the values of the strongest submachine gun, the MP5. Unfortunately, its magazine is a bit small for a high rate of fire, but especially in Warzone, it is worth using for close-quarters combat.
How do I unlock the weapon? The Fennek is part of the current Battle Pass for Season 4, and you must reach level 15 to unlock the new assault rifle.
How long does it take? As with the AMAX, the Battle Pass level takes around 30 – 50 minutes. You can unlock the Fennek with just about 7 hours of gameplay.
Unlocking VLK Rogue – Shotgun Echo
What kind of weapon is this? The release of this shotgun in Season 3 went somewhat unnoticed, as the update on March 10 also launched the Warzone for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
However, this pump-action shotgun probably would not have garnered much attention anyway, as the weapon generally does not perform well. Especially in Warzone, there are better options in this area, such as the Origin or R9-0.
How do I unlock the weapon? Use a shotgun with 5 attachments and get 7 kills in 15 games.
Shotguns are close-combat monsters and particularly effective in tight areas. Small maps help again, but also maps with large enclosed spaces, like Gun Runner or Vacant. If a suitable map is available, take the shotgun as your main weapon and try your luck.
How long does it take? If you can achieve the 7 kills in each match, you will likely play for about 2.5 hours. However, if there is no 24/7 rotation with shotgun-suitable maps, it can take longer.
Unlocking Holger 26 – LMG Echo
What kind of weapon is this? This LMG was introduced in Season 1 and is a more mobile representative of its class.
You can easily convert it into an assault rifle hybrid and significantly increase the weapon’s mobility. This gives you one of the secret weapons in the game that can only be assembled with specific attachments. This is how the Holger becomes the G36.
How do I unlock the weapon? Get 2 long-range kills with an LMG in 25 different games.
Grab a strong LMG, like the PKM, attach some sights for better aiming, and get the long-range kills. The LMGs in Modern Warfare are usually easy to control and absolutely deadly even at longer distances.
If you do not enjoy using LMGs, you can switch classes during the match after getting the 2 kills.
How long does it take? The second weapon from the Battle Pass of level 1 also requires you to play 25 matches and approximately 4 hours of gameplay.
Unlocking Bruen Mk9 – LMG Foxtrot
What kind of weapon is this? The Bruen Mk9 was introduced during Season 3 to the CoD arsenal and impresses with its short reload times and versatility.
This LMG can also be converted into an assault rifle-like hybrid, thanks to its small 60-round magazine. This gives you a very low TTK at long distances. However, the Bruen is a bit sluggish and loses its attractiveness because of that.
How do I unlock the weapon? Achieve 3 kills with an LMG in 15 different matches as long as the enemy is near smoke.
This challenge had some issues at the start, and it is now easier to complete the mission. However, getting 3 kills near smoke is not a given. Bring the smoke grenade with you and use it with each life.
How long does it take? You can complete the 15 matches in about 2.5 hours. However, you will probably not get your 3 smoke kills in every round, so it might take longer.
Unlocking Armbrust – DMR Delta
What kind of weapon is this? The Armbrust was introduced during Season 1 and actually deserves its own weapon class. It doesn’t really belong to the DMRs, since it uses bolts instead of bullets:
- Normal bolts
- Thermite bolts that burn the target
- Gas bolts that obscure an area
- Explosive bolts, which skip the downed phase in Warzone
However, as wide as the application area is, due to its special type, it is inferior to most weapons in CoD and not a good choice. However, the kills are still a lot of fun.
How do I unlock the weapon? Use a DMR with a reflex sight and get 5 kills in 25 different matches.
If you regularly use a DMR, you probably already have the Armbrust in your locker. If not, it could be a good reason to start playing. Remember to put a reflex sight on the weapon.
How long does it take? Like the other two weapons from Season 1, the Armbrust also requires a significant amount of gameplay. You should plan for 4 hours to play the 25 matches.
Unlocking SKS – Battle Rifle Echo
What kind of weapon is this? The SKS is a semi-automatic weapon with a fast firing rate and long range for 2-shot kills of DMRs. It was part of the Battle Pass in Season 3.
You can modify it in various ways to suit your single-shot needs. In multiplayer, you can achieve one-shot kills with headshots. This makes it a strong weapon for all soldiers who do not always prefer automatic fire.
How do I unlock the weapon? Use sniper rifles or DMRs and achieve 2 long-range kills with headshots in 15 different matches.
Use a weapon with a large sight, and over time you will unlock the SKS. Since it is often the goal to take down the enemy with a headshot, just focus on the long shots.
How long does it take? You should take around 2.5 hours for the 15 matches. If snipers and DMRs are not your thing, it may take longer. A few tips for aspiring snipers could be helpful here.
Unlocking Renetti – Handgun Foxtrot
What kind of weapon is this? The Renetti is an interesting handgun that belongs in every well-equipped CoD soldier’s weapon cache. It was introduced through the Battle Pass of Season 3.
This pistol is quite powerful and comes with a special attachment that transforms it into a real close-combat monster – a 3-shot burst. If you also use the Akimbo perk to wield two pistols, your TTK in multiplayer can theoretically drop to 25 ms. The colleagues from GameStar recommend a few strong setups for the pistol.
How do I unlock the weapon? Use a pistol and achieve 2 headshots in 15 different matches.
If you want to obtain the Renetti, you need to play a few games with pistols. However, since all starter handguns operate in single-shot mode, you should quickly achieve the headshots.
How long does it take? You should take around 2.5 hours for the 15 matches. Since you only need 2 headshots, it should be doable within that timeframe.
Unlocking Kali Sticks – Melee Charlie
What kind of weapon is this? The Kali sticks have been available since the start of Season 4 and are the only melee weapons besides the knife.
In multiplayer, you need 2 hits for a kill instead of just one hit, but the range is significantly higher. A fun toy for those who like to engage in close combat. Warzone victories have also been achieved with them.
How do I unlock the weapon? Use a knife and achieve 3 kills while sliding in 15 different matches.
If you often slide and swing your knife in CoD, then unlocking them shouldn’t be a problem. Otherwise, small maps are the best, especially Shipment. On larger maps, this can otherwise take a long time if you don’t patiently wait in a corner for your 3 victims per match.
How long does it take? If you can unlock the sticks with the “Shipment 24/7” playlist, you will probably complete it quickly and only need around 2.5 hours for the 15 matches, possibly even less.
Some of the weapons that you do not unlock through level-ups are real gems, such as the Grau 5.56 or the RAM-7. Get your hands on these guns, and maybe you will find your new favorite.
