Your weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone become really powerful only when you equip them with the right attachments. However, the attachments do not always do what is stated. 7 attachments have secret properties that are not listed on the data sheet.
What are these secret changes? These are effects that certain attachments have and that the game does not inform you about.
Actually, every attachment in Gunsmith comes with a small data sheet. From this data sheet, you can read the pros and cons and thus quickly see how the attachment affects your weapon’s values.
That this is not always the case is already shown by the explanation, what the Full Metal Jacket perk really does. Although it increases your damage according to the display – in reality, it just costs an attachment slot.
Secret properties of 7 attachments of the MP5 and M4A1
What effects do the changes have? YouTuber and CoD expert TheXclusiveAce has looked at some attachments in a video and shown that they change more than is actually displayed. Primarily, it concerns attachments for the barrel.
These barrel attachments often change bullet velocity or other values. This directly affects the damage of the weapon. More precisely: It changes the damage range, meaning the distance at which the weapon’s damage falls off.
He tested two weapons in detail: the MP5 and the M4A1. The MP5 is still the strongest weapon in its category, while the M4A1 has been dethroned by the RAM-7. Nevertheless, both weapons are still extremely popular and are often used.
Which attachments have secret properties? Basically, every barrel changes the muzzle velocity of your weapon. Ace comes to the following conclusions for each of the attachments in Call of Duty:
- For the M4A1
- FSS 11.5″ Commando: ~15% reduced damage range
- M16 Grenadier: no change measured
- FSS 14.5″ Tac Light: ~10% reduced damage range
- Corvus Custom Marksman: no change measured
- FSS 12.4″ Predator: ~25% reduced damage range
- For the MP5
- FSS Light: ~15% reduced damage range
- Muzzle Brake (integrated, Monolithic): ~12.5% increased damage range
- FSS Mini: ~25% reduced damage range
- Muzzle Brake (integrated Subsonic): ~30% reduced damage range
This means that certain builds like the secret MP5K are even worse at longer ranges than previously assumed. Anyone playing such setups should be well aware that they are only suitable for close combat.
Ace also found that the barrel affects hip fire spread. As a rule of thumb, the longer the barrel, the less accurate the hip fire is. Longer barrels also have the disadvantage that your aim stability (“idle sway”) increases, making aiming slightly more difficult. More information on all attachments for better aiming can be found here. You can see the effects in the embedded video by TheXclusiveAce here:
Other hidden changes
Further tests have shown that the “No Stock” attachment also reduces hip fire spread. Otherwise, Ace has not yet found any attachments that have a really significant influence on the game and the choice of a weapon, as barrels do.
However, many players have suspected that suppressors increase aiming accuracy. This is one of the “hidden changes” that is not true. Suppressors do not improve your aim. Read here, what suppressors really do and how to use them.
The next time you build your loadout for Warzone or Modern Warfare, keep in mind that especially the choice of your barrel influences how you should best play – can you play at a distance or do you need to get up close? How important the right setup is shown by this build for the M13, which practically turns it into a laser.
