The 5th season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone is coming to an end, but wants to be remembered. For this, it brings out the big guns and delivers modes with plenty of action and appropriate Double XP.
What’s going on? Not much longer now, and possibly the last season for Modern Warfare will start. With Season 6 launching next week, CoD MW could celebrate its farewell and pass the seasonal baton to the new Black Ops Cold War. Warzone will go along with it and likely won’t see a new Battle Pass until the first season of Cold War. Here you can find more information about how Cold War & Warzone fit together.
But before it comes to that, Modern Warfare is doing everything to keep you entertained. Therefore, Season 5 is ramping up in the last week and brings modes that promise a lot of action – including Mini Royale for Warzone and split Shipment/Shoot House playlists. The Activision blog post with the weekly update reveals the following modes that will come after the update:
Update 20:20 – The playlist update is live. Here are the current modes of the playlists:
Modern Warfare
- Ground War
- Gunfight
- Gunfight 3v3 – Only Snipers
- Team Deathmatch & Drop Zone
- Shoot House 24/7
- Shipment 24/7
Warzone
- Battle Royale Solo / Duo / Trio / Quad
- Plunder 4-man

Playlist Update before Season 6 on September 22 brings Action & XP
When will the modes be available? The normal time for the “Modern Warfare” modes is Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM (September 22). However, it often happens that the update is delayed by a few minutes or hours. If there is no new playlist by 9 PM, it might start tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM (September 23).
You will already have to wait longer for the Warzone mode. Mini Royale will probably only come back on Thursday evening (September 24, 7 PM) or Friday evening (September 25, 7 PM). The exact time may still change here as well.
When is Double XP? These times are already set. You can use the entire weekend to complete your last levels in the Battle Pass or to level a pesky weapon – there is double XP on everything (weapons, levels, Battle Pass):
Triple Tier Double XP
- Starts on Friday at 7:00 PM
- Ends on Monday at 7:00 PM
When does Season 6 start? If it goes as it did with the last season starts, Season 6 will either begin on September 29 or 30. Here are all the details about the possibly last “CoD MW” season.
What can the modes do this week? For a few weeks now, Shiptember has been running, bringing you the popular “Shoot or Ship, whatever” playlist for a whole month. For the finale, the mode is split for a week, giving you the Shipment and Shoot House playlists individually as 24/7. For many players, these are the best playlists that the game has to offer.
The other two announced modes for CoD MW are more for connoisseurs. On the one hand, you can have sniper battles on the small Gunfight maps. As a 3-man team, you have the opportunity to elevate your quick-scope skills to a new level in a 3vs3 sniper gunfight. The objective moshpit delivers you the two modes Team Deathmatch-Domination (a mix of Domination / TDM) and Drop Zone (capture zones for killstreaks) on changing large 6vs6 maps.
For Warzone, Mini Royale is returning. This fast-paced battle royale reduces half the map, players, and match time, delivering the first and last 5 minutes of a typical battle royale. Get ready for constant enemy contacts and a quick end to the match – because after about 13 minutes, the winner is already determined. If you like Shipment in CoD MW, you will love this mode as well.
Cold War Alpha is making waves
What happened this week in CoD? Over the weekend, the first public test phase of the new CoD: Cold War took place, and PlayStation players were able to get a sneak peek. Here you can see the impressions for yourself:

The new CoD will be released on November 13, and before that, there will be two beta phases in which players on other platforms can also participate. Here you can find all the information about participating in the beta. Until then, CoD MW is still keeping its foot on the gas and has no intention of making room for the new installment on the fast track.
