In Call of Duty, the first playlist update for the new Season 5 goes online, bringing fan favorites for Modern Warfare. In Warzone, you can attack the action-packed Mini Royale for another week.
Update – 6:30 PM: The update is now live and has brought along a patch that nerfs the currently strongest weapon, the Bruen Mk9. However, there seem to be issues with logging in. Players are reporting that they cannot get into the game. Support is already working on a solution.
Original Announcement – What’s happening in CoD? With the start of Season 5 last week, Call of Duty has brought its fans a lot of new content and thus some engagement:
- New maps in Modern Warfare
- New event and stadium renovations in Warzone
- Fresh battle pass with new weapons
But despite the small content boost, CoD continues to bring something new to the playlists every week, which we can also use well in the hot weather. Thanks to a CoD blog post on the Activision website, we already know what to expect in the playlist rotation. This time already shortly after the season start, the fan favorite “Shoot the Ship” is included:

The mode “Shoot the Ship” was added on Wednesday evening – in return, the free-to-play modes disappeared.

When is the new playlist coming? The blog post does not specify a concrete time but gives August 11 as the start date. For our time zone, that usually means the update will go live either tonight between 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM or at the latest tomorrow morning at 8 AM (August 12).
How long does the free-to-play event last? Currently, players of Warzone who have not purchased Modern Warfare can try out multiplayer modes and maps. The mode “Weekend Warfare” offers this opportunity.
The mode runs until August 12. If it goes as usual, you will have until 7:00 PM on Wednesday to unlock weapons, try the regular multiplayer, and fine-tune your loadouts.
What can the new modes do? Some players will especially be glad about the quick return of the fan favorite “Shoot the Ship”. Here you play the two smaller maps “Shoot House” and “Shipment” in an endless cycle of chaos and headshots.
Additionally, the new mode “Bare Bones” is interesting, which translates to “Bare Bones”. In this mode, you only fight with your firearms, the lethal grenades, and your secondary equipment. Killstreaks, field upgrades, and your perks are completely disabled – a pure CoD gunplay experience.
For Warzone, very little changes this week. Recently, it has been common for new modes in Battle Royale to arrive only on Thursday or Friday. However, the blog post currently does not provide information about this and lists the above-mentioned modes for this week. If you have not tried the “Mini Royale” mode this week yet, be sure to do so.
What else happened during the week in CoD? Last week was fully focused on Season 5. Many soldiers are still trying out the two new weapons or working on unlocking the latest firearms. You can find more about the weapons here:
