Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone provide not only a variety of weapons but also a large selection of attachments. Some of these come with hidden features, and the “Merc Foregrip” is probably one of them now.
What kind of speed buff is this? The weapons in Call of Duty usually offer not only differences in appearance and handling but also hidden modifiers, such as movement speed.
Generally, in Modern Warfare & Warzone: The bigger the weapon, the bigger the disadvantage you have to accept regarding your movement speed. With an SMG, you are always significantly faster than with a sniper rifle, but only marginally faster than with an assault rifle. Without a weapon or with a knife, you are the fastest on foot.
With certain attachments, you can close this gap a little. However, the advantage that one of the under-barrel attachments brings for movement speed was previously unknown. Because the “Merc Foregrip” was originally supposed to only improve your recoil control and hip-fire precision. YouTuber and CoD expert “JGOD” has now discovered that the attachment additionally provides a small speed buff:
Merc Foregrip is a strong choice for recoil control
How strong is the buff? Compared to the normal weapon version, “JGOD” noticed a 3% difference. This can be noticeable, and the running speed with an assault rifle then feels more like you’re holding an SMG.
This buff is particularly noticeable in Warzone. For example, if you want to jump from one roof to another in the “Storage Town” area, this often doesn’t work with assault rifles, but it does with an SMG. With the 3% bonus, you can now make the jump and are significantly more mobile in this area.
The difference should not be underestimated in multiplayer either. You not only run faster but also slide further, jump better, and your movement gets a slight upgrade. The correct setting of the deadzone of your controller helps you here as well.
When should I use the Merc Foregrip? With this new information, the Merc Grip becomes significantly more attractive. The grip competes here with 2 other attachments (Marksman and Ranger Grip) that offer very similar advantages. The “Marksman Foregrip” previously had the edge, but only a slight edge, as the differences between these 3 were hardly noticeable.
This small nudge now makes the Merc Grip possibly a stronger choice among attachments that improve your recoil control. These help you compensate for the upward recoil of the weapons. Especially with SMGs or the semi-automatic rifle FAL, you gain more control.
So, if you’re not using the “Commando Foregrip”, also a strong attachment for better aiming, but one of the 3 attachments for “recoil control”, try the Merc Foregrip now and benefit from its hidden property. Here are more attachments that don’t readily give away all their secrets:
But the choice depends on your preferences
What is the difference from the other under-barrel grips? Overall, there are 5 foregrips available for many weapons in Modern Warfare 2019. Sometimes weapons also have their own variants (like the Grau 5.56 with the Cronen Shark II, which is actually a “Tactical Foregrip”), but mostly the grips are easy to recognize:
- Merc Foregrip – Helps with vertical recoil and hip fire, decreases ADS speed – Increases movement speed
- Marksman Foregrip – Helps with vertical recoil, decreases ADS speed
- Ranger Foregrip – Helps with vertical recoil and aim stability, decreases ADS speed
- Commando Foregrip – Helps with horizontal recoil and aim stability, decreases movement speed
- Tactical Foregrip – Poor attachment that provides hardly any advantages but makes you slower. Better not to choose
With the new discoveries, the Merc Grip could now be the best under-barrel grip if you want to reduce the vertical recoil of your weapon. However, for automatic assault rifles, the Commando Grip often remains the best choice. It is the only foregrip that helps you with horizontal recoil, which is generally harder to compensate for than vertical.
If you’re using an attachment for “recoil control”, now would be a good time to check your setups. 3% movement speed may not sound like much initially but can make the difference between escaping the gas of Warzone without having to drop your weapon or getting caught by the circle.
