There’s a lot going on in the community of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Heated discussions are taking place, and there are also some harsh words exchanged. Even below the belt.
What are the players saying? Just before the start of Season 1, a player thanked the developers on reddit for their work and requested that they continue to improve the game.
The user received a response from Joe Cecot, the Co-Design Director of Multiplayer. His reaction:
Translation: It can be tough. I would appreciate getting fewer private messages about how my children are dying a cruel death. I now spend less time here. Thanks for the thank you. We are working like crazy!
Even on Twitter, there seem to be repeated hostilities. The very active Communications Manager, Ashton Williams, writes that she receives tons of tweets and emails but will not respond to offensive ones. “No one deserves that, and we are all adults.”
Players are “100x worse” than the game itself
What is the players’ problem? The reason for the excitement might be the poor state of Modern Warfare from the perspective of some players. Since its release, bugs and glitches have been circulating:
- Players with shield and knife have become insurmountable combat colossi
- In the new tournament mode, there have been issues with the allocation of wins and losses
- Walls revealed the names of players behind them
Although there are simple solutions for some smaller bugs, others need a hotfix or intervention from the developers. This seems to disturb many players. Moreover, they are dissatisfied with the development.
This also troubles the players: In another thread on reddit titled “The community is 100x worse than the game could ever be,” a user parodies the behavior of the community when they demand new maps.
He describes that dissatisfied players demand maps “like the old maps” but when they arrive, they complain that they are just mindless copies. The maps of Modern Warfare are already a bigger point of contention.
Not everyone is dissatisfied and toxic
How are other players reacting to this? Both threads on reddit have gathered over 25,000 upvotes each. The consensus strongly leans towards the side of the developers:
- Hazard-of-Duke says: “And people wonder why the developers are not as active here as we would like them to be.”
- Musiah says: “The game is not perfect. But man-babies wishing death on the developers’ children should be banned. There is no place for that.”
Even the development of the maps is defended by some. Some players have no problem with old maps returning. After all, they are popular, and there’s a reason for that.
