The new Season 2 of Black Ops Cold War has started today, on February 25th, and also brings content for Call of Duty: Warzone. MeinMMO shows what to expect.
Call of Duty distributes its new content for free through seasons across its current games. For the new Season 2, the CoD creators released a gameplay trailer and a roadmap revealing many details about the next content cycle. In this article, you will find:

Cold War & Warzone Season 2 – Trailer, Release and Update
When does the new Season 2 come to Warzone & Cold War? Season 2 started today, on Thursday, February 25.
There was a preload for the patch, or rather, the patches:
How large is the update? Depending on which platform you play on, you will need to download differently sized files.
Here are the sizes for the Cold War patch:

- XBox One: 15.0 GB
- XBox Series X: 25.1 GB
- PC: 30.85 GB

Call of Duty: Season 2 Battle Pass
What does the Battle Pass bring? As in every season since the launch of Modern Warfare, the new Season 2 also brings a fresh Battle Pass into the game. For 1,000 CoD Points (about 10 euros), you get the opportunity to unlock more than 100 cosmetic and bonus items. However, you must earn the tiers with experience points. Here’s what to expect:
Warzone & Cold War Battle Pass Season 2 with 100 tiers
- The pass costs 1,000 CoD Points
- Each of the 100 “tiers” offers a reward
- Operator skin immediately upon purchase
- 2 new weapons to unlock – FARA 83 & LC10
- Weapon blueprints
- 1,300 CoD Points total, you can thus make a ‘profit’
- Legendary rewards upon completion of the pass
- Many operator skins with missions for even more skins
- Calling cards / emblems / sprays / charms
- Vehicle items like battle songs or skins
- XP tokens for an experience point boost
- 10 & experience boosts on the Battle Pass

Even if you do not want to spend the 1,000 CoD Points for the pass, you can earn items. In the Season 1 pass, 24 of the 100 tiers were free.
The two new weapons coming to the game are always part of the free tiers and thus accessible to every player.
Who is the poster boy / poster girl of Season 2? Each season introduces a new operator that you unlock as soon as you purchase the Battle Pass. The story of the season usually revolves around this operator. Season 1 introduced an old enemy of the operator Adler – Stitch.
It is not yet certain, but currently, everything suggests that the nasty “Naga” will be the face of the next season. He is also prominently featured on the roadmap.
Which operators are also coming to the game? Besides the villain Naga, other operators will also come to the game throughout the season:
- Maxis – A tough fighter from the zombie mode
- Rivas – A lively soldier with a penchant for crossbows
- Wolf – Comrade of Woods who loves his minigun
How you will obtain the new operators is still unknown. Leaks have already shown purchasable bundles for “Maxis”. It is currently likely that you will only obtain these 3 operators through premium currency.
Season 2 has some weapons in sight
Which weapons could be in the Battle Pass? The two new weapons for the start of Season 2 are known:
- LC10: SMG at tier 31 of the Battle Pass – This appears to be the SMG “Scorpion” that has appeared in several earlier CoDs
- FARA 83: Assault rifle at tier 15 of the Battle Pass – This rifle appears to be inspired by the Israeli weapon IMI Galil
What weapons are also hinted at? In the lead-up to the season, some hints of many new weapons surfaced through data leaks. The roadmap now specifically shows which tools will come into the arsenal throughout the season:
- R1 Shadowhunter – A powerful crossbow
- ZRG 20MM – A sniper rifle with high bullet velocity but low rate of fire
- E-Tool – A shovel as a melee weapon
- Machete – A large knife with deadly properties
There are also ongoing speculations that weapons from Modern Warfare could come to Warzone. Currently, however, nothing suggests that the pistol, LMG, and SMG from the survival mode will come to the Battle Royale. Especially since the Sykov pistol would be OP in Battle Royale.
Content for Cold War in Season 2 – Maps, modes, equipment
What maps does Season 2 bring at the start? In terms of 6vs6 maps, some players might be disappointed by the new season’s start. The roadmap only announces a normal 6vs6 map:
- Apocalypse – A jungle map in Laos, on the edge of the Vietnamese border
For the duration of the season, the roadmap shows three more maps:
- Golova – A “multi-team” map, likely for larger modes like “Fireteam”
- Mansion – A small firefight map
- Miami Strike – A version of the Miami map during the day
What maps could come? Even though the roadmap currently does not reveal more, there are some hints in the files about even more maps. However, it is unclear when or if these maps will come into the game:
- Echolon – A mix of the classic maps “Highrise” & “Dome”
- Dune – Fireteam map in a desert style near the Ural Mountains
- Data for 5 classic maps – Firing Range / Summit / Jungle / High Jacket / Standoff / Slums
Are there updates on new equipment? Like in Season 1, the new season also brings a fresh killstreak into play. This time it’s the “Death Machine.” This is a minigun that you can unlock during a match. However, you will have to wait; this new toy is set to arrive later in the season.
The roadmap only shows one killstreak, but the trailer suggests that the “Annihilator” could also come into play. This is a one-shot revolver with significant damage.
Other equipment that data miners have found in the files, but whose release is not yet certain:
- Firing Shield – Field Upgrade: A shield that can be deployed and fired from. Similar to the field gun from CoD MW
- Barbed Wire – Field Upgrade: A barricade made of barbed wire
- Flamethrower – Scorestreak: Already seen in press images from Cold War
- K9 Unit – Scorestreak: A dog unit for deployment
- Strafe Run – Scorestreak: A precision airstrike
Cold War: Zombies gets a new mode: Outbreak
What is Outbreak? This is a new zombie mode that plays on the large fireteam maps and is set to launch with the start of the season.
With Outbreak comes a new zombie map with four new modes, differing significantly from the previous tasks in “Die Maschine” and “Firebase Z”. The map will be significantly larger and offer new content like vehicles.
If you have friends with whom you want to try out the zombie mode or the multiplayer of Cold War, they can play Outbreak and the new CoD for free this weekend.
This is part of Warzone and an “Outbreak Challenge Event” that runs from February 25 to March 11.
Content for Warzone in Season 2 – Map adjustments and Outbreak event
What can be expected for Warzone in Season 2? The trailer and roadmap also showcase content for the battle royale Warzone:
- The new weapons will come into play
- An Outbreak event with zombie content
- New modes
- Map adjustments
- Speculations about the nuke event
What is currently very certain: the two new weapons from the Battle Pass and the later released weapons will also come to Warzone. Additionally, with the new season, the “Outbreak Challenge Event” will start.
How this will work exactly is still unknown. Due to some leaks of a joint event with Cold War, one can currently expect that zombie modes will again come into Warzone, similar to the Halloween event. You can unlock cosmetic items through challenges and have a chance at special weapon skins if you complete all challenges.
The event is also likely related to the storm and the ship that have been waiting off the coast for the season launch.
What new modes are coming? The roadmap shows 2 new game modes for the battle royale:
- Resurrection Extreme – Season Start
- Exfiltration – Throughout the season
Resurrection Extreme is a new mode for the small map Rebirth Island and brings even more action to the small island. You play by the rules of the “Revive” mode, and as long as a team member is alive, fallen teammates return. However, 90 players will be on the map and not just 40.
Exfiltration is basically a normal battle royale in Verdansk, but with a special twist. There’s a device on the map that one team can capture. If a team captures the device and can protect it long enough, the squad wins the round. However, while capturing, the team is marked, similar to a “Most Wanted” contract. The mode will be released later in the season. More details about the two new modes can be found in our special:
Trailer hints at changes to the Warzone map
What map adjustments are coming? Many players continue to hope for a new big map for Warzone in March. However, the trailer is rather disappointing in this regard – there’s no new or concrete information available.
However, the trailer clearly showed changes in Verdansk. There will be new underground areas, and rocket silos on the map are apparently opening up. Therefore, with Season 2, there will definitely be adjustments. However, it is unclear whether you can enter the new areas at the start or only later in the season.
What about a nuke event? Persistent rumors about a nuke event in Verdansk have been circulating, which could change or completely remove the map from the game. In the trailer, it says, “Learn about the beginnings of the end” – CoD expert “TheXclusiceAce” sees this as a hint at the end of Verdansk. In his English YouTube video, he suggests that this ending refers to the downfall of Verdansk.
The opening of the rocket silo has reignited rumors of the nuke event.
For example, there is speculation that operator Adler was brought to Verdansk during the Cold War after the story of Season 1 by his enemy Stitch. Stitch might be in Verdansk and could possibly be responsible for the appearance of zombies, using the gas from Rebirth Island, Nova 6, and samples from secret zombie research.
The city would be completely destroyed following the zombie attack in order to eliminate the undead hordes. However, it remains unclear whether this would occur in the story setting of the official “Cold War” or in the story of Modern Warfare.
It will be exciting to see what new content comes with Season 2. Currently, the possibilities are vast, and in the next week, it will show whether Season 2 can convince. Perhaps CoD can even change the opinion regarding the integration of “Cold War” into Warzone. So far, only a few of our readers are convinced by the integration.
