Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War surprisingly announces an alpha test phase for PS4 players that starts today. Find all the important information here to participate.
How can I participate in the alpha? There are 2 important prerequisites: You need a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Plus. The alpha is not subject to any conditions like a pre-order.
These are the important times:
- The alpha runs from now until Sunday, September 20 at 7 PM our time
As announced in the big announcement stream of the PlayStation 5, the alpha starts today and the pre-load is already active. Check the PS Store, download the data now, and over the weekend, you can play CoD Cold War for the first time on your screen. You can access the test version through your Modern Warfare & Warzone menu.

What can be tested? CoD provides alpha players with several maps and modes. The PS blog post mentions:
- 3 6vs6 modes (TDM, Kill Confirmed, Domination)
- 3 6vs6 maps (Miami, Satellite, Moscow)
- Combined Arms 12vs12 (Domination)
- 2 12vs12 maps (Crossroad, Armada)
There is already a decent selection of firearms available. The English YouTuber Inkslasher already presented 15 weapons he could test during a preview event. These are also the weapons available in the open alpha:
You will also have immediate access to all weapons and their attachments at launch. However, not all attachments from the release version are unlocked in the alpha. A suggestion for the best weapon of the alpha has CDL pro Scump ready.
Additionally, you can test the new mechanics and important changes such as:
- Higher time-to-kill
- Classic mini-map
- New system for assembling loadouts
- Revised movement
- Scorestreak system

How long does the alpha run? Here are the important dates:
- Pre-load starts on September 17 at 5 PM
- The download is around 25 GB
- The test phase starts on September 18 at 7 PM
- The alpha ends on September 20 at 7 PM
For all testers, there is also an exclusive calling card that you can use in all 3 games – MW, Cold War, and Warzone.

What are the other important dates? The beta dates are already known, and in October you will have another chance to test CoD 2020:
