Update brings completely new map for zombies – Firebase Z is online
What’s coming for the zombie mode? The highlight here is definitely the new map. But beyond that, there are a few little things that should please players of the undead adventure:
- Firebase Z – zombie map in the jungles of Vietnam
- Tombstone perk
- Dead Ops Arcade solo advance
- Express as map for Onslaught
- Comprehensive balance adjustments and bug fixes
What is known about the new map? Developer Treyarch showed in the blog post about the update quite a bit of information about the new map. The story picks up after the events on the first map “The Machine” and continues it. Additionally, there are:
- New zombies as enemies
- Hidden secrets
- A new wonder weapon
To get you in the mood, the developers also show a trailer for Firebase Z, which we embed here for you:
The map goes live in “Endless” mode and in a variant where you have to survive 20 rounds. The big Easter egg, which practically represents the main story of the new zombie map, will be available to play from 6 PM on February 4.
What is the new perk? The new ability “Tombstone” can be collected as usual during the match and is this time a kind of self-revival with pitfalls.
According to the description from the developers, you turn into a shadow when you go down. You can then explore the dark ether and have the opportunity to revive yourself. However, if you fail, you will have no chance to be revived again in this round. If you upgrade the perk, you can even save your equipment with it.
What’s new for Dead Ops Arcade? For the crazy twin-stick shooter, a new advance mode for solo players is being introduced. This is mainly a comfort function. You can then start the mission where you got the farthest solo and push your progress this way. You don’t earn points for the high score, but you can play advanced levels without having to start over every time.
What’s coming for Onslaught? The PlayStation-exclusive onslaught mode is getting a new map – Express. This is the map that is also new for the multiplayer mode.
What else do the patch notes contain? In addition to the new content, there were extensive, smaller adjustments to the zombie mode to improve the experience.
- New killstreaks: artillery strike and napalm attack
- More damage for some weapons, including assault rifles, SMGs, and the new Streetsweeper shotgun
- New challenges, including fresh dark operations
- Comprehensive overhaul in the “Dead Ops Arcade” mode

Multiplayer gets map classic and fresh mode
What’s coming for multiplayer? In multiplayer, you can look forward to a new map, but the mega mode fireteam also gets a fresh breeze thanks to a new mode:
- Multiplayer map Express
- Fireteam mode Endurance
What kind of map is Express? The map should be familiar to CoD veterans, as it comes from the CoD of 2012 – Black Ops 2.
The developers describe the map as a 6vs6 map with high speed. It takes place in Los Angeles at a train station, and you fight on the train tracks, as well as in the train station itself.
How does the Endurance mode work? According to the description in the blog post, the new fireteam mode functions very similarly to the release mode “Dirty Bombs”. However, a total of 10 teams of 4 players each compete on the map against each other, instead of just 2 teams of 20 players.
Unlike in “Dirty Bombs”, there are always 5 bombs ready to attack. Normally, you would have to let all bombs of a wave explode before new ones appear. In Endurance, each destroyed bomb immediately brings a new one into play, and to win a team has to reach 1,000 points, instead of 500 like before.
Warzone is empty again
What about Warzone? In the era of Modern Warfare, such large content drops often came with some changes or innovations for the battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone. However, just like with the mid-season update, there are no innovations for Warzone this time either.
Due to leaks, some players expect a new big map in March for the anniversary. Here you can find out what leaks, rumors, and facts about the new Warzone map there are so far. But with the new update, the battle royale seems to have got nothing again.
