The AK-47 is the only assault rifle with a large 7.62 caliber in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but it still feels very pleasant to play and deals a lot of damage. A pro from the “Call of Duty: League” now showcased his setup, which MyMMO presents to you here.
The Soviet Kalashnikov series is one of the most well-known weapon series among shooter players around the world. And although “Kalashnikov” actually stands for many different weapons, many probably think of a very specific model: the AK-47.
The automatic weapon has made it into many “Call of Duty” games and is back in Black Ops Cold War as well. It is the only assault rifle that competes with the large 7.62 caliber and clears out efficiently.
What makes the AK-47 strong? Unlike, for example, in the “Cold War” predecessor Modern Warfare, it plays really well this year, is manageable, and offers a decent damage output.
Pro player James “Clayster” Eubanks plays as the main assault rifle player this season for the New York Subliners and usually relies on the heavy assault rifle AK-47 in his scrims. On his Twitch channel, he now shows his best setup, which MyMMO presents to you here.
Cold War: AK-47 Setup tested by a pro
What does the setup look like? Clayster uses the wildcard “Gunslinger” for his loadout so that he can attach more than the usual 5 attachments to his weapon. In the end, he gets a really stable assault rifle with high range and a strong time-to-kill (TTK) that allows you to fire at opponents up to 95.25 meters in 300 milliseconds:
- Optic: Microflex LED
- Muzzle: Muzzle Brake 7.62
- Barrel: 18.2″ Access
- Body: Steady Hand Laser
- Underbarrel: Speznas Grip
- Magazine: 40 Rounds
- Grip: Speznas Field Grip
- Stock: KGB Skeletal Stock

What does the setup bring? The optic offers a 1.25x magnification, a nicely large field of view, and small edges, so that little is obscured in the immediate vicinity of your target.
The underbarrel and muzzle reduce the weapon’s recoil – vertically by nearly 12% and horizontally by 20%. With the access barrel, your damage range increases by a whopping 150%, allowing you to access your full damage in almost every gunfight.
The larger magazine gives you 10 extra bullets at the cost of some reload speed. In the first damage zone, you only need 4 bullets to take down an opponent, but with 40 bullets, you can apply even more pressure.
The Speznas Grip enables faster ADS speed and brings you into aim in 255 milliseconds. Combined with the TTK, the value here is at 555 milliseconds. Additionally, the grip provides 80% flinch resistance, allowing you to hold the weapon steady, even when bullets hit near you.
To compensate for movement and hip-fire penalties from the other attachments, the KGB Skeletal Stock and the Steady Hand Laser are added to the rifle, completing the pro setup for the AK-47 for Cold War Black Ops.
3 assault rifles compete for your loadout slots in Cold War
Which assault rifles still make it in Cold War? Shortly after release, the focus is on 3 weapons among the assault rifles:
- FFAR 1: TTK – 330 ms / ADS – 255 ms
- XM4: TTK – 333 ms / ADS – 255 ms
- AK-47: TTK – 300 ms / ADS – 255 ms
In terms of time-to-kill, the 3 weapons are very close together. However, the AK has a slight advantage over the lightweight assault rifles with 5.56 caliber, being about 10% faster in time-to-kill, but it does feel a bit less stable compared to the XM4 and FFAR 1.
In terms of ADS speed, the 3 are even equal, promising some exciting duels this year. Be sure to try all 3 if you like assault rifles. You can also gain an advantage over other assault rifle players with the right settings. Here you can find the most important settings from Cold War that will make you better immediately.
