The first teaser for the accompanying cinematics of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is here. The series “Afterlife” tells, much like “Warbringers” in Battle for Azeroth, the fates of important characters, some of whom are among the most famous in the game.
This is the teaser: In the first teaser for the short film series “Afterlife”, there are several scenes that already hint at the upcoming cinematics you can look forward to, which will delve deeper into the story of the upcoming expansion Shadowlands.
The teaser also shows a brief glimpse of each of the Covenants of Shadowlands, which will feature and become the most important feature of the new addon. The scenes are accompanied by the voice of Uther. We have embedded the teaser in German here for you:
Which characters are shown? Along with new and lesser-known characters, some famous NPCs are visible in the short teaser, whom every WoW fan will likely recognize:
- Uther, the Lightbringer – Arthas’ former mentor
- Arthas himself, already as the Lich King, as he kills Uther with an army of undead at his back
- Draka, the mother of Thrall
These are already some of the dead NPCs that we will see again in Shadowlands. However, there is also a scene showing a bound orc, who strongly resembles the former warchief Garrosh Hellscream:
In the subtitles, the orc is only referred to as “Orc”. His cry and bound position are, however, iconic for the fanatic leader. On the other hand, nothing is yet known about Arthas, perhaps he serves merely as a driving force for Uther’s story. There may be more secrets and hints hidden in the teaser.
“Afterlife” – The Short Film Series of Shadowlands
In the description of the video, it states that with Afterlife you “discover what journeys the souls undertake when they pass through the eternal veil.” Apparently, the stories of the most important characters of the expansion will be told through the short films.
Just like the current addon, the “Warbringers” cinematics worked. In those, Blizzard delved into the tragic stories of the main actors of the new war:
- Warbringers: Jaina shows how the young mage became an outcast
- In the cinematic of Sylvanas you see her death and her undead rebirth full of hatred
- The last short film about Azshara tells the story of the scheming queen, who may only have wanted to save her people
Derived from the characters shown so far in “Afterlife”, here again three, possibly even more cinematics for Shadowlands could come. The premiere of the short film series is set to take place on Thursday, August 27, 2020.
Together with Shadowlands, WoW also gets new graphics options. You can literally see the world and the new NPCs in a new light – with ray tracing. However, many players are currently debating whether ray tracing in Shadowlands is a miracle of graphics or rather a flop.
