A graphics card from China is supposed to compete with the RTX 4060. In initial tests, it fails to meet its goal, yet it is sold out shortly after. There is more to it than just effective marketing.
Those looking to buy a graphics card today have limited options: Either they go for Nvidia, AMD, or Intel. Nvidia currently holds the largest market share.
Lisuan Tech from Shanghai has launched the LX 7G100 after 5 years of development. Some say: China’s first, self-developed, serious gaming GPU. And the graphics card is sold out just 2 days after pre-ordering.
The LX 7G100 has a suggested retail price in China of 485 US dollars, which is approximately 416.52 euros. For comparison: The RTX 4060 started with a suggested retail price of 299 US dollars.
Already after 2 days, the graphics card or the first block of pre-orders is sold out. Overall, Lisuan Tech is said to have sold over 30,000 graphics cards, generating revenues of 14.55 million US dollars. The manufacturer announced this via the chat service Weixin.
Gaming graphics card from China fails in benchmarks but is still selling
Why is this exciting? So far, Nvidia and AMD have predominantly dominated the graphics card market, and with the LX7G100, a real first gaming graphics card is coming out of Asia. The last interesting graphics card from China did not support modern software and was thus not so interesting.
The strong sales figures reflect not only effective marketing by Lisuan Tech but also consumer curiosity and their willingness to support emerging domestic brands, even if their products are not the most powerful on the market.
Additionally, Nvidia has long been dealing with a sales stoppage and bans for certain graphics cards and China has been wanting to promote domestic products for some time to become more independent from US companies.
Because the new graphics card has not achieved its goal according to initial tests, namely to reach the performance level of a GeForce RTX 4060. Instead, it gives more the performance of an RTX 3060, and that for an expensive 400 euros. This is reported by the English-language magazine TomsHardware.
