For some time now, Escape from Tarkov has been experiencing a backlash, but the developer responsible for it didn’t see it coming.
Who is it about? Nikita Buyanov is the face of the developers of Escape from Tarkov and the COO of the company behind the game. In issues, in interviews, and when it comes to big decisions, he often has the final word and is responsible. This was also the case when Escape from Tarkov recently released a new edition that caused a major backlash.
Now the lead developer has once again spoken out and wants to finally meet the fans’ wishes, but they have long since had enough.

“I somehow didn’t foresee it”
What did the lead developer not foresee? The lead developer and COO of Battlestate Games did not see the backlash coming. In his post on Reddit, where he addresses the backlash, he writes: “Unfortunately, I somehow didn’t expect such a reaction, and now I have drawn conclusions for my future decisions.”
What does the developer announce in his post? The developer announces 5 points in his post on Reddit that will change:
- Access to the PvE content will be enabled for owners of the “Edge of Darkness” edition.
- There will be mod support for the PvE mode, but only after the game is released.
- The new “Unheard” edition of the game will not be removed, but there will be balance changes, and players can upgrade from other editions to this one.
- The new perks of the “Edge of Darkness” edition will also be balanced, specifics will be announced later.
- There will be more content for the game, come what may.
Regarding whether one realizes that the PvE mode is a DLC and that in the future, owners of the EoD edition will receive their promised expansions, the COO did not comment.
How do the fans react? The players of Escape from Tarkov are still really angry. Under Nikita Buyanov’s post on Reddit, they let their frustration out.
- Poodmund writes on Reddit: “They still haven’t addressed the fact that you plan to release DLCs for the game that are not to be delivered to EoD owners. Please confirm that EoD owners will receive all future content for the game as promised when purchasing the product.”
- Zizaran suggests on Reddit: “Can’t we just make all paid features cosmetic? I’m more than happy to spend a lot of money on the game for cosmetic upgrades, voiceovers, weapon skins, anything that doesn’t affect gameplay.”
- broken-cactus expresses disappointment on Reddit: “Saying that you’re sorry we feel this way is such a silly statement. Obviously, you’re not sorry for what you’ve done.
This is a good step, but honestly, you have shown your true face with this whole fiasco. I am very disappointed and hope you take some time to rebuild the trust you have lost with this community.”
