With New World Aeternum, newcomers, but also many veterans, seize the opportunity for a fresh start. In record time, some newly created characters reach the maximum level and acquire the best gear. However, this is now being criticized by parts of the community.
What is the criticism about? The fact that players with a lot of free time invest it at the start of an MMORPG to reach the maximum level and the best possible equipment as quickly as possible is an old, worn-out hat. However, this is now facing criticism in New World Aeternum.
StormerXLR8 posits in his post on Reddit that anyone who has already reached a gearscore of 700 after just a few days can never be truly happy in Aeternum. 805 upvotes and more than 350 comments have already appeared under the post within just a few hours. His main argument for this thesis:
- Even after all these years, New World simply doesn’t have enough endgame content to keep up with this investment of time.
StormerXLR8 further writes: “It is so sad to see that so much positivity from people who enjoy the new campaign and the updates is overshadowed by the same old min-maxers who pull all-nighters to reach the endgame as quickly as possible, out of a strange sense of superiority.”

The Sprint Against the Endgame Wall
How is the community reacting to this?
- Allencella comments under the post on Reddit: “I’m only level 17 and loving the journey.”
- Affectionate_AD5540 agrees on Reddit: “All my friends have returned to Aeternum – when I logged in last night, 6 out of 10 of them were already level 55+ on new characters. Take it slow. Enjoy the game, it’s not a job.”
- BinMansGames sees a good reason for the sprint (via Reddit): “They are probably just pushing to max level quickly to dominate wars and take over the map.”
- HybridPS2 adds (via Reddit): “… to then exclude everyone else and demand VOD replays from anyone wanting to participate in the war…”
- Snakeskins777 admits (via Reddit): “Believe it or not, there are players who do not enjoy questing. Instead, they love endgame wars, fast-paced expeditions, 3v3s, and open-world PvP. They love it so much that they have been playing the same content for 3 years and are still doing so.”
Are there observations that support StormerXLR8’s thesis? New World Aeternum has only been out for a few days, and the first posts are already surfacing complaining about the lack of endgame.
- Crunux explains in his thread on Reddit that the endgame of New World Aeternum urgently needs adjustments (and what those adjustments should be from his perspective).
- Zaerick-TM is hoping in his thread on Reddit for a quick roadmap for what should be coming soon. His character is already at gearscore 700 and he urgently needs new content.
- And in a third thread on Reddit, Such_Formal_1647 explains that character progression in Aeternum is moving at far too fast a pace, as he reached the maximum level on the very first day.
At least these three players (and various commentators in the three threads) seem to be really unhappy with New World Aeternum after their sprint to the maximum level, which supports StormerXLR8’s thesis.
