The new MMORPG from Amazon offers many features and functionalities. Above all, New World wants to be an MMO with social aspects. One of those would be to change your name. Is that even possible in New World?
Can I change my name? The short answer is no. Currently, Amazon has not implemented a feature for changing names retrospectively. However, it is common in many MMORPGs to offer such an option.
It is therefore possible that New World will add the feature to fulfill a major wish of the fans. But we can’t say for sure at this point.
The only way to effectively choose a new name is currently to start anew, which is not necessarily a good solution.
Can names be reserved? This is only partially possible. Especially due to the long queues at the release of the game, some fans have asked their friends to reserve their names.
Unfortunately, this is also a problem in New World, as even after deleting a character, the name is blocked for 90 days, so no other player can use it.
So, if you want to have a different name on your current server, your only option right now is to delete your character and create a new character with the desired name.
Can I change my name during a server transfer? Unfortunately, that is not possible either. When you create a character, the name is globally blocked. This means that no player can have the same name as you, in any region or on any server.
This means that Amazon does not have to allow you to change your name when switching servers, because it cannot be taken. So, this rather desperate option for changing names is also off the table.
Do I really just have to wait? Currently, unfortunately, yes. It is quite possible that Amazon will soon introduce the option to change names. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
However, the developers at Amazon have been busy getting the server transfer to work, which has been live for only a few days.
So if you are dissatisfied with your character name but are already too far advanced in the world of New World to delete your character, your only option right now is to wait.
