Could the next high-end graphics card from Nvidia cost around 3000 euros? The price increases from scalpers are not even taken into account.
Some users hope to be able to buy an RTX 4000 next year. Currently, the graphics cards are either so expensive that no one wants to buy them, or barely available.
A YouTuber now suggests that the prices for the next generation could rise significantly. We’re talking about 3000 euros here. But is 3000 euros worth it for a graphics card? After all, for that money, you can currently get a complete gaming PC.
Does the next high-end graphics card from Nvidia cost 3000 euros?
Where do the prices come from? The YouTuber “Graphically Challenged” regularly discusses graphics cards, their performance, and function on his channel. He has therefore gained experience on the topic.
The YouTuber has now made guesses about how much the next generation of graphics cards could cost. Therefore, the prices are not leaks but are based on observations of the current situation.
The tweet lists the following prices. In Germany, taxes would be added to these prices:
- RTX 4090 – 2,999 US Dollars
- RTX 4080 Ti – 1,999 US Dollars
- RTX 4080 – 1,199 US Dollars
- RTX 4070 – 799 US Dollars
- RTX 4060 Ti – 499 US Dollars
- RTX 4060 – 399 US Dollars
- RTX 4050 Ti – 329 US Dollars
- RTX 4050 – 279 US Dollars
How likely are such prices? Looking at the current situation, the prices don’t seem so outrageous: After all, you currently pay at least 1800 euros or more for an RTX 3090. This price is significantly above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.
The YouTuber and others also suspect that prices for the next generation could rise significantly. After all, the current situation shows that gamers and miners are certainly willing to pay 2000 euros or more for a graphics card.
Nvidia could now justify significantly rising prices by the current situation. Furthermore: If the price isn’t increased by themselves, greedy scalpers will drive the prices up. The YouTuber himself writes in the tweet “Miners and gamers vote with their wallets,” meaning that if people are willing to pay a lot of money, the prices will also rise.
What are the reactions? Under the tweet, there are already some who shake their heads at the mentioned prices. Especially given the current situation, where graphics cards are being sold for thousands of euros on eBay, many users do not believe that you can actually get the graphics cards for such prices.
Moreover, a special version of the RTX 3090 already costs more than 4000 euros and is considered one of the most expensive versions of the high-end card. This version was aimed more at enthusiasts rather than gamers:
An investment of 3000 euros is likely to deter many gamers
How much performance does the RTX 4090 offer? Some leaks had already suspected that the RTX 4090 would offer double the performance of the RTX 3090, but that is just speculation.
Still, it is questionable whether the double price is really worth it for double the performance. 3000 euros is a lot of money for many people.
Especially at the current time, there are hardly any games that can fully utilize the power of a GeForce RTX 3090. The double performance of an RTX 4090 is likely hardly needed by any gamer at the moment. Many would presumably opt for the 3000 series instead.
For whom would that be worthwhile? For very few gamers would the investment really be worthwhile. For 3000 euros, you can currently get a fully equipped gaming PC – or a used car that has been around for a few years.
Already there are plenty of reasons why gamers should prefer the RTX 3080 over the RTX 3090. If you can get the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti near the MSRP, the Ti version would even be a better option than the normal RTX 3080.
Graphics card prices won’t improve in the near future
What are the current prices? For a current RTX 3090, you currently pay at least 1800 euros or more, and there is currently no sign of falling prices. And that prices will drop permanently again is something that very few users currently believe.
In the meantime, even Nvidia itself has stated that prices will remain high. You either have to be patient or have great luck when buying a graphics card. Or you continue to game on the hardware you currently have at home.
What do you think of the prices? Would you really reach deep into your pockets for a next-gen graphics card, or do you think 3000 euros for a graphics card is too much?
