The most important things at a glance:
- For 60 FPS in Full HD, you need a GTX 1660 Super (around 250 Euros).

Which card is best for you depends on the resolution and detail level you want to play at. As resolution and details increase, you need more power accordingly. What you should consider when buying a graphics card
There are many new GPUs on the market: Generally, you should be patient when buying a graphics card right now. Many graphics cards like the RTX 3080 are currently sold out, and AMD will also be releasing its new RDNA2 graphics cards. Also, consider looking at the used market if you urgently need a replacement.
Cooling and size: Make sure to check how big your case is and how much space you have. Will a large graphics card even fit, and is there enough space for the warm air to escape from the case? Many gaming graphics cards occupy two slots in the case, while high-end models may take up to 3 slots.
Memory: Some cards can cover several areas but may offer fewer FPS or reduced details. At least 6 GB is definitely mandatory for a new graphics card. Long-term, 8 GB is even the best choice. 4 GB is not recommended.
What about Raytracing? If you want to benefit from improved light effects via Raytracing, you currently have to go for NVIDIA’s RTX graphics cards. AMD’s new 6000 series, which is also supposed to support Raytracing, will not launch until November 18, 2020.

Best graphics card for 1080p gaming at 60 Hz
Recommendation: GTX 1660 Super or RX 5600 XT | Price range: 200 – 250 Euros
Full HD at 60 Hz: If you want to play in Full HD with a stable 60 fps rate, you should look at NVIDIA’s GTX 1660 Super.
- This offers you a stable framerate above 60 FPS and with 6 GB provides enough video memory. The GTX 1650 Super is only conditionally recommendable as it only offers 4 GB of video memory. This could become quite tight in the long run.
- Complete PCs with GTX 1660 Super are also possible. Here you get modern hardware for around 800 Euros.
ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super TUF X3
Why is the graphics card worth it? The ASUS GPU delivers a very good price-performance ratio and is very suitable for gaming in Full HD. For some titles, its performance is also sufficient for WQHD. You can also play older titles easily with more than 100 FPS. However, this graphics card is less suitable for silent PCs, as it becomes quite loud under load.

AMD Alternative: Asus TUF Gaming Radeon RX5600 XT OC
What would be the alternative? If you prefer to go with AMD rather than NVIDIA, then the RX 5600 XT would be your alternative. This is priced similarly to NVIDIA’s GTX 1660 Super and offers a few percent more performance.
Why is the graphics card worth it? The RX5600 XT offers slightly less performance than the RX5700 XT but is also cheaper. Full HD is no problem with this card, and you still have plenty of power for WQHD. However, in direct comparison, the price difference to the RX 5700 cards is almost too small, offering only 6 gigabytes of video memory.

Best graphics card for 1440p gaming
Recommendation: RX 5700 XT or RTX 2060 Super | Price range: 400 – 450 Euros
In the 4K range, there are currently enough options for interested gamers. If you mainly play at WQHD (1440p) or want more FPS in Full HD (1080p), there are currently three graphics cards you should consider:
- The RX 5700 XT is AMD’s current graphics card suitable for the WQHD range and partially for 4K. With it, you get high framerates.
- The RTX 2080 Super offers a few more percentages of performance but is significantly more expensive.
- Alternatively, you can opt for the RTX 2060S: It provides slightly less performance than the RX 5700 XT, is priced similarly, but also offers Raytracing.
MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT Gaming X
Why is the graphics card worth it? According to ComputerBase, this is a very good graphics card and the best custom model from MSI in years. This is mainly due to the high raw performance of the graphics card and the excellent cooling system built by MSI. Critiques include the high power consumption and comparatively high noise levels.

Best graphics card for 4K gaming
Recommendation: RTX 3080 or RTX 3070 | Price range: 600 – 800 Euros
In the 4K range, there are currently few options available when it comes to graphics cards. This is largely because the interesting graphics cards are highly sought after and another competitor will not launch until mid-November.
Which graphics card is recommended? The RTX 3080 is currently the price-performance recommendation for gamers who want to play in 4K. Also, testers praise the RTX 3080 for its strong performance at a reasonable price. However, the problem is that the RTX 3080 is hopelessly sold out and it is unclear when more stock will be available.
- An alternative could be the cheaper RTX 3070. Here, stock is also problematic.
- If you can get the RTX 2080 Ti used for 600 to 700 Euros, you could opt for this one. It is still a strong graphics card.
