Well-informed sources have hinted at a continuation of the popular Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone – an entirely new game with its own content. A kind of reboot. MeinMMO wanted to know from you what you would think of a reboot. And many of you are in favor.
First players have started discussing whether the free Call of Duty: Warzone would benefit from a complete reboot.
The old content is gone: weapons, cosmetics, maybe even the current and old maps – everything is to be scrapped and replaced with a completely new version of Warzone. Essentially CoD: Warzone 2.
On MeinMMO, we launched a survey on January 24, and it has now emerged that the developers are apparently indeed planning a continuation of the Battle Royale – if one trusts the credible leaks.
Reboot of Warzone? Many on MeinMMO want that
For many users on MeinMMO, it is clear: “We want the reboot.” Here you can find the article with the survey and here are the results (as of January 26, 2022, 12:00 PM):
Out of 1,175 votes, 772 users are in favor of a reboot. However, there are differing opinions on what such a “reboot” might look like.
MeinMMO reader “Lieblingsleguan” for example thinks that the old weapons and cosmetics could disappear. But the existing maps should remain in the game:
The only thing that could be reused would be the maps. Think about it, we would then have Verdansk, Rebirth, Caldera, and the rumored new map. Always two of them as part of the weekly playlist and two would be off. I would think that’s great.
On our Facebook page for Call of Duty, user “To Mi” has his own ideas for a Warzone reboot. He tends to lean more towards a return to the initial state:
I would be in favor as well. Just Warzone with the weapons & operators from CoD MW. It was much better back then. It was clear that all the integrations of the other CoD parts would ruin Warzone. With so many gadgets & weapons, the balance just becomes unmanageable at some point.
Feel free to leave a comment about how you envision a new Warzone. Do you want an entirely new experience or rather an improved version of the current Battle Royale?
What is known about Warzone 2?
We don’t know too much yet about a possible CoD: Warzone 2. Trustworthy sources have revealed the following, without it being officially confirmed yet:
- Warzone 2 will be released in 2023 (not as a premium title)
- The new Warzone will no longer come for the old consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4
- Entirely new game with new content – no old weapons or similar
The release information comes from renowned gaming journalist Jason Schreier and the info about consoles and content comes from established leaker “Tom Henderson”.
A possible release is therefore still at least a year away. Which shooter hits you can expect by then, we discussed in our current podcast.
In 2023, there could be again 2 major CoD titles coming. Treyarch is developing a reboot of the popular “Black Ops” series and a currently unknown studio is working on Warzone 2.
How the next year will unfold for CoD fans is still uncertain. First, the release of CoD 2022 is ahead – Find out here what we already know about Call of Duty: 2022.
