With the Maliwan Takedown, a new content update for Borderlands 3 is on the way. It’s the perfect time to jump back into the game.
When does it start? The Maliwan Takedown update will be rolled out on Thursday, November 21. It’s expected to be implemented overnight like the previous updates.
Maliwan Takedown will not be a limited-time event like Bloody Harvest. The new Maliwan base and everything that comes with it will remain permanently available.
Maliwan Takedown brings new content – with tanks?
What will be included in the update? Primarily, the update will introduce a new Maliwan base that you need to take down. The special feature: The base is designed as a challenge for teams of level-50 players. Maliwan Takedown is explicitly aimed at players who have already completed the game and are looking for new challenges.
There will definitely be new loot to collect. Strong shields have been announced, along with new enemy types, a new boss – and possibly a new vehicle.

An older promotional image for Borderlands 3 shows a vehicle resembling a kind of tank. So far, this type of vehicle hasn’t been found, but the design resembles that of the manufacturers Atlas and Maliwan. On reddit, some players speculate that the tanks will either come with the Takedown or the first major DLC. It seems like it will be a wait and see situation.
A new challenge
That’s why Takedown comes at the right time: Many players have long completed the story, and the endgame challenges have been thoroughly explored over time. Bloody Harvest was a good bite that provided players with new tasks. However, the quest around Captain Haunt was completed quickly – at least the hunt for rare event loot offered long-term engagement.
The base in Maliwan Takedown itself won’t take too many play hours, but it will entice with plenty of collectibles. Most importantly, the update provides the motivation to continue optimizing your character – after all, the base is supposed to be really challenging. To succeed here, you will need good builds and strong weapons. Those who are not well-prepared may find new motivation through the event.
Additionally, in November, the Mayhem mode is set to be expanded with a fourth difficulty level. If this happens just in time for Maliwan Takedown, it will add another challenge.
And the new DLC is slowly coming into view:
