The weapons in Borderlands 3 will have over 7500 different and unique sounds, says a developer. That is 25 times more than the predecessor Borderlands 2, and even more are planned.
The Senior Sound Designer of Gearbox Software, Joshua Davidson, tweeted about the development of Borderlands 3. According to Davidson, as of April 28, 2019, Borderlands 3 is supposed to already have over 7500 unique .wav files (audio files) for weapons, and the developers are “not finished yet.”
As a comparison, Davidson draws Borderlands 2. The predecessor was released with only 300 audio files that were meant to cover all weapons and manufacturers.
What does this mean for the game? Borderlands 3, like its predecessors, works with many different weapons, ammo types, and elements. The well-known element “Slag” from part 2 has been replaced with a new element called “Radiation”.
Thanks to the audio files that weapons are now getting, all firearms and presumably the elements will have their own distinctive sounds.
This primarily serves to make the weapons even more unique in the game. Perhaps some fans will even choose their weapon in the game based on the very special “PEW” sound.
What weapons are there? The exact number of weapons is still unknown, but there are supposed to be over a billion different weapons. Nine weapon manufacturers have already been introduced whose weapons you can acquire in Borderlands 3 and which have unique properties.
The weapon manufacturers provide you with various types of weapons. In the predecessor, these were archetypes like:
- Sniper rifles
- Assault rifles
- Shotguns, etc.
The weapons of a special manufacturer look very unique and may become very important in Borderlands 3. Furthermore, weapons have already been shown in the trailer that have legs and can chase their opponents and apparently even insult them.
Just here, there is great potential for dozens of audio files that could give the “guns with legs” some profane words in their barrels.
Are you also excited about Borderlands 3?
