Borderlands 3 will receive its last DLC this year for the time being. However, it seems that after DLC number 4 it won’t be the end! What can we hope for?
This was the current status: Officially, Borderlands 3 is set to receive four DLCs – three of which have already been released. All of them have impressed the fans:
- The Handsome Jack DLC was the first hit
- DLC number 2 sent you to the haunted planet Xylourgos
- The 3rd DLC became popular among fans for its great atmosphere
The fourth DLC, which will likely focus on the old fan-favorite Krieg, is also set to release by September 2020. Additionally, there were numerous updates and events that were released outside of the DLCs and provided further content. However, whether and how this supply will continue beyond autumn 2020 has been uncertain so far.
Randy Pitchford hints at “big plans”
This is what Randy Pitchford says: During a stream by Ki11er Six, one of the largest Borderlands 3 streamers, Randy Pitchford suddenly appeared in the chat. Ki11er Six was originally just trying out the effects of the last major patch and suddenly had a notable viewer in the Gearbox CEO.
In the chat, Pitchford initially mentioned that he just wanted to look at the Moze build of the streamer, before commenting:
We have some big plans, even beyond the Season Pass content. We will be ready to share more about it soon.

Ki11er Six was visibly pleased with the announcement and joked that he would like Headhunter DLCs with more relatives of Captain Traunt. Pitchford replied: “Haha, I love it. I will bring that up.”
What could await us? Headhunter DLCs featuring Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Traunt probably shouldn’t be expected – on the other hand, you never know with Borderlands. However, it seems to be a fact that Borderlands 3 will continue even after the completion of the Season Pass – in whatever form.
Of course, a new Season Pass with more story DLCs is possible. Players have repeatedly expressed their desire for more vault hunters to play as. Gearbox has consistently refused this so far – but maybe they will change their minds in the second year?
New skill trees seem more likely, even if they could still be possible with the fourth DLC or before. And the Headhunter Packs shouldn’t be dismissed either: The Headhunter Packs were small DLCs for Borderlands 2, which added small locations, new enemies, or NPCs to the game. These included T.K. Baha’s Bloody Harvest or “How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day”.
Borderlands 3 has also had such “mini-DLCs” in the form of free content updates like Bloody Harvest, or the cartel event. It is conceivable that these updates will simply continue. However, that Pitchford specifically mentions the Season Pass and “big plans” suggests something bigger.
