Is BlizzCon a family event? Not in 2019, as Blizzard warns of content that may not be suitable for children.
In a few hours, BlizzCon will start and is likely to unveil numerous new games that fans can look forward to in the coming months and years. However, a sign at the BlizzCon venue is already causing a stir, as it seems not all content at the convention is suitable for a younger audience. This fuels the hopes of the fans.
What happened? First visitors to the BlizzCon venue in Anaheim have noticed a sign in front of the building. Blizzard warns:
This year’s BlizzCon opening ceremony will feature content that may not be suitable for younger viewers. Parental guidance is recommended.
There is also a note that the opening ceremony can be viewed in another hall without this content for those who prefer to filter out such material.
Update: 19:43 – It is getting really dark. The warning signs were important solely for the dark trailers for Diablo 4. See them here:
Sign Increases Hype for Diablo 4
What does this mean? This warning reinforces the suspicion that Blizzard will release a hefty trailer for Diablo IV during the opening ceremony.
After all, Diablo is considered (along with StarCraft) Blizzard’s “darkest and most brutal” franchise, where blood and guts fly around and terrifying beings roam.
What wishes and hopes do you have for BlizzCon? We discuss that here.
Overwatch and Warcraft, on the other hand, are more suitable for a younger audience despite the warlike actions, due to their iconic comic style and colorful world.
This is also reflected in the ESRB rating: Overwatch and Warcraft are usually rated for “Teens”, while games in the Diablo series almost always have an “M” rating, meaning they are intended for an adult audience.
Fans are excited: On social media and Reddit, most players are now sure that the warning at BlizzCon 2019 can only be about the new Diablo. However, some still do not fully believe this and say “Don’t give me hope…” At least there is still a lot of skepticism about Diablo IV and whether it will meet the expectations of long-time fans remains to be seen.
In theory, a new franchise could be possible – or something from the StarCraft universe, but there have been no leaks about that so far.
We will know more tonight, as the opening ceremony starts at 7:00 PM. We will report on this promptly.
