In a recent livestream, Blizzard presented new information and gameplay about the Warlock, who is introduced in the “Lord of Hatred” expansion for Diablo 4. To make the DLC appealing to you, you can try the other new class for free.
What is the new class in Diablo 4? The second new class is the Warlock. They are dark spellcasters who subjugate demons to their will. They draw their power directly from Hell, summoned through rituals, alchemy, and dark magic.
The Warlock uses the unholy powers of Hell against themself and thus acts as an embodiment of demonic vengeance, essentially the dark counterpart to the Paladin. You can learn more about the Warlock and its abilities in our overview.
This is how expensive the Warlock is: To be able to play the Warlock and also the Paladin in Diablo 4, you must purchase at least the standard edition of the “Lord of Hatred” expansion for 40 euros. However, you can check out the Paladin for free next week.

How can I test the Paladin for free? Through a “Free Trial,” you have the opportunity to take a closer look at the Paladin in Diablo 4. The test period runs from March 11 to March 18, 2026 (6 PM German time) on Battle.net, Xbox, and PlayStation. Thus, the test period starts simultaneously with Season 12, which serves as a bridge to the DLC and therefore lasts only seven weeks.
If you play the Paladin up to level 25 during the Free Trial and purchase “Lord of Hatred” in pre-sale, you can transfer your progress and character directly. Once you pre-order the DLC, you can play the Paladin in Diablo 4.
Paladins, especially Crusaders, are the declared arch-enemies of Mephisto, who has caused much harm in Sanctuary. Their goal is to completely eliminate his corruption. Thus, he forms the moral and gameplay counterpart to the Warlock, who embodies demonic vengeance. The Paladin uses the unique class mechanic of oaths. When can I play the Warlock? You can only play the Warlock starting from the official release of the “Lord of Hatred” DLC on April 28, 2026. The class is based on the attribute Willpower and summons powerful demons as support on the battlefield. Additionally, it is the only class that uses two resources: Wrath and Dominance.
