Could we soon get a spin-off of World of Warcraft on smartphones? At least that is claimed by insiders.
The announcement of Diablo Immortal at BlizzCon 2018 was one of the major negatives in Blizzard’s history. But while hardcore Diablo fans don’t want a mobile title, Warcraft players can imagine that more readily.
A recent article from Kotaku, citing anonymous statements from Blizzard employees, reveals that this is likely no dream. Allegedly, there is very active work being done on a “Warcraft Mobile”.
Many “Pokémon GO” fans at Blizzard: A current developer is quoted by Kotaku, stating that there are many mobile gamers among the developers. The reaction within Blizzard to Diablo Immortal would have been quite different from that of the community. Many developers also play Pokémon GO and fight around the arena every day before work – the large Orc statue on the Blizzard campus in Irvine.
From this, the desire to also make a mobile game, roughly in the same direction, naturally emerged.
More single-player elements: The Warcraft mobile game is reportedly already in a playable state. Blizzard developers who tested it believe that it is “more” than Pokémon GO and especially has more single player mechanics. Details on how this looks were not disclosed.
Nevertheless, one should not forget that Blizzard is fundamentally still canceling more games in development than are being released. They recently confirmed this in an interview at BlizzCon.
So before there is an official announcement of the respective game, one should take this information with caution.
By the way, one person is already playing World of Warcraft on a mobile device…
