Blizzard recently presented the roadmap for 2025 for Diablo 4, but it hasn’t been well received by the community. Now, the team speaks up and explains: that wasn’t all that the year has to offer.
According to the Diablo 4 roadmap, you can look forward to fresh powers in every new season. However, criticism was already expressed at the announcement of the boss powers you will receive in the upcoming Season 8 if you defeat the toughest opponents.
This is what is being criticized: Many players find that the theme of the boss powers is simply too similar to the witch powers in the current Season 7. Previously, there were also vampiric powers that could be unlocked – it all feels somewhat recycled.
In the coming months, Blizzard seems to remain true to the old formula and will deliver new powers that can be earned:
- In Season 8 you will use the attacks of the bosses and also benefit from passive bonuses.
- Season 9 revolves around Horadric powers.
- In Season 10, you will receive chaos powers for your builds.
“A whole year just with seasonal powers … uff”
What do players specifically say about the roadmap? The roadmap is being discussed by the community on Reddit. The user YakaAvatar writes in a comment: “So will every upcoming season just be a grind for random powers?” And SantiagoCeb says: “Only three new shelter bosses in the entire year? The rest is recycled content.”
The user Fliedel finds the roadmap “quite disappointing” and writes: “A whole year just with seasonal powers … uff. And that leaderboards are supposed to come only in 2026 is really crazy.”
The user feldoneq2wire comments in another Reddit thread: In other games, new seasons introduce features like housing or a trading system where merchants from foreign lands bring materials – in Diablo 4, it means: “What powers are we going to craft together this time?”
This is what a Diablo expert says: Diablo expert and content creator wudijo also commented on the plans for Diablo 4 in his Twitch stream on April 8, 2025: “It looks like they want to spice up the nightmare dungeons and the hell hordes a bit.” He hopes that Blizzard will create something cool out of it and believes that nightmare dungeons could become more interesting because of it.
However, he misses an update on the crafting systems of completion and hardening in the roadmap. He wishes for something new and cool to craft, with which gear can be improved – for example, something like the “Vaal Orbs” in Path of Exile 2. With the orbs, you can even accidentally turn your gear into junk.

What does Blizzard say about it? Community Director Adam Fletcher responds on Reddit as follows regarding the community’s criticism:
The further the roadmap progresses, the fewer details are fully fleshed out – this gives us some room as the teams are still working on some content.
Regardless, the team is currently putting a lot of work into some big things regarding the upcoming expansion. I’m pretty hyped and wish I could shout from the rooftops about what we have planned – but I think the closer we get, the more excited players will be.
And community manager Lyricana also writes in a comment on Reddit: “We intentionally provided fewer details in the later sections of the roadmap to leave room for content the team is still working on. This isn’t everything that’s coming in 2025. :)”
In Season 8, you can expect boss powers that will expand your builds. Additionally, Blizzard plans to significantly increase the difficulty and make the endgame particularly challenging.
