Players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have been waiting for 2 years for a port of the MMORPG Black Desert. But apparently, Pearl Abyss is in no hurry. The release of Black Desert is taking a long time.
What is Black Desert? The MMORPG “Black Desert” focuses on great graphics and probably has the best combat system in the genre.
While classic MMORPGs like WoW or Star Wars: The Old Republic are made for mouse and keyboard, in Black Desert you dash around, perform combo moves, and hack your way through hordes of enemies.
Many players on consoles wanted Black Desert the moment they saw the first trailer.
This is what happened with Black Desert and consoles so far
This is what has happened so far: Black Desert has always kept the backdoor open to appear on consoles.
- In January 2017, the developers first spoke about a planned console port in Taiwan
- In March 2017, the developers then officially confirmed that “Black Desert” would actually be released on PS4 and Xbox One.
- In June 2017, the confirmation came at E3: Black Desert is coming first to Xbox One. Microsoft is helping with the port, so PlayStation 4 has to wait.
- Since then, players have been expecting a beta to be announced every month. There were even false starts. But the beta did not materialize.
- Only in June 2018 it was said at E3 that the beta phase of Black Desert would begin at the end of 2018 in the autumn – much later than hoped.
- Since then, there has again been nothing heard about the console version for three months. But Black Desert apparently also has its eye on the Switch now.
What is going on there? There must have been some delay; otherwise, the release wouldn’t have been announced at E3 2017, only for nothing to happen for a whole year.
- It could be that the port is more complicated than initially thought. However, it looked really good on Xbox One X in March 2018.
- More likely, priorities have shifted in the meantime. The console port of Black Desert may not be as important now as it was a year and a half ago.
What has changed? In January 2017, when Black Desert first talked about “Xbox One and PlayStation 4”, the West was still centrally important for Black Desert’s plans. A lot of money had been made here after the release in March 2016.
- Meanwhile, the love for Black Desert in Europe and North America has cooled off. Fans complain about “Pay2Win”, leading to conflicts.
- However, the mobile version of Black Desert is more popular than ever in Asia. Pearl Abyss has made a fortune with Black Desert Mobile in South Korea and other parts of Asia.
It is quite conceivable that the console version had to suffer because of this.
Nevertheless, the beta of Black Desert on Xbox One should start in the coming months. It’s about time.
Interesting: A very similar course has been taken by PUBG on PlayStation 4. Although they at least made it to Xbox One before the mobile hype began.
