The open beta for Black Desert starts on December 17th in Korea with some effort. The game is “Free2Play” in quotes. They will try to monetize the game appropriately.
As reported by mmoculture, the open beta of Black Desert will start in Korea with some effort. Publisher Daum has partnered with 9000 South Korean internet cafes to ease the game’s launch. There will be seven different graphic settings, so users with different power PCs can optimally enjoy the game. One week before the start, you can download the client, then create your character two days prior. As we know (and can also admire in the open beta trailer), this is something very special in Black Desert.
Shortly after the open beta, it seems it will go into release. In early 2015, the first beta tests are set to begin in Europe.
One may be curious about how the Koreans will receive Black Desert. It sounds a bit strange and pretentious, but: it may decide the direction of future AAA projects and thus the whole genre. Therefore, the eyes of the MMO market might be more focused on Black Desert and South Korea in December rather than on the West and World of Warcraft, which rather relies on the tried and tested.
