For Black Desert Online, things have not been going well in NA and EU in recent months. Now, Kakao Games is introducing the new class Lahn to the game. Can it provide a boost?
Revenue has declined
In February, developer Pearl Abyss commented on the revenue of Black Desert in Europe and North America. The revenues from the PC version have decreased. The financial report from April supports this statement. Currently, the mobile version of the game, Black Desert Mobile, is generating the most money. It is attributed to the fact that there has been relatively little happening with Black Desert on PC lately. It’s referred to as a “quiet phase.”
The new class Lahn is expected to improve revenues in the near future.
Players express criticism
In addition to the declining revenue, there has been ongoing criticism from the player base towards Black Desert in recent months.
- An item that was supposed to end up in the Loyalty Shop was instead placed in the Cash Shop.
- On Reddit, a player collected hints about possible missteps by the developers towards players in Black Desert and sent them to numerous news sites. They seemingly wanted to trigger a shitstorm intentionally.
- In April, significant changes were made to PvP that upset many players.
The changes in PvP led the Executive Producer of Black Desert to directly address the players and say: “The gameplay has become very repetitive. We want to focus more on an exciting MMO again.”
Lahn is finally playable, if you find space for it
Players in NA and EU have been waiting a long time for the new class Lahn. There is about a 6-month gap between the class’s release in South Korea and here. In South Korea, the class “Rahn” was introduced in early December. Now, it is finally available in Europe.
However, there is already some excitement around the Lahn class. Because at the start of the new class, there is no free character slot, as there was for other classes. Instead, one must purchase it in the Cash Shop.
You may have already created your personal Lahn in the last few days. Now you can finally make your mark on the world of Black Desert with her.
The Lahn class is characterized by the following features:
- She wields a crescent pendulum attached to a piece of fabric.
- Lahn can run through the air and strike from above.
- Her awakening weapon consists of two dark swords that inflict deep wounds on enemies. The swords are not yet available for us.
At the start of the class, an event is running where you will be rewarded with various items for playing and leveling up the class. Additionally, Valks rewards are back to gift you for daily logins.
The highlight: After 28 days, players receive a cute penguin. You do not need to be logged in for the 28 days consecutively and can make up for missed days on weekends by playing.
Pearl Abyss responds to criticism
The update has now brought Lahn. A significant part of this week’s update for Black Desert also includes changes to the gameplay of existing classes.
Some highlights:
- If characters break free from a grapple, they are immune to new grapples for 5 seconds.
- Grabbing will now count as a grapple once characters have broken free from a grapple. This is intended to prevent continuous grappling.
- Grudge of the Black Spirit now builds up with a ten percent chance by 1% when you take damage. You always generate it on a PvP kill.
