The dye system in Black Desert causes stress and frustration among players. Because those who want to look good must suffer financially. Dyeing armor and costumes is indeed very expensive! While a single dye costs “only” 50 pearls (about 50 cents) or 200 loyalty (bonus for logging in for 2 days), you cannot choose which dye you get.
You can choose different boxes, such as a “red box”, but this contains over 21 different shades. Even if you are lucky enough to get the right color, you face the next problem: Many armor pieces have multiple “dye slots”, meaning different areas that can be dyed individually. Correctly guessed: Each slot consumes one dye, as they are all single-use.
No wonder that the first examples appear in the forum from people who have spent $300 to appease “RNG Jesus” until they finally collected their desired color combination.
Many players feel that the system in its current form is not suitable for the western market. Although dyes can be purchased with “loyalty”, a “grindable” currency, the chances of getting the color you want do not increase. The cries of “rip-off” are getting louder, because who wants to buy a costume for €29, only to have to dye it for several hundred euros afterward?
Finally, a little tip: If you have 2 colors you don’t want, you can rearrange them into a random color. With a bit of luck, perhaps something more suitable will show up this time.
Mein-MMO says: Dye systems that are heavily based on chance have existed in other MMORPGs. Star Wars: The Old Republic did something similar when introducing its cash shop and its own dye system. Here, too, the dyes were randomly included in the boxes.
In the meantime, they have moved away from that and can also target and purchase especially coveted colors (black, white, etc.). Since Black Desert places great importance on satisfying the western community, it is conceivable that adjustments will be made in the future. However, there has not been an official announcement about this yet.
