Many online games are now being developed openly. Players can participate in the development early on. We have selected four games for you that are still in development. What is happening there?
Almost no game is released today without a public test. Every developer relies on free testers who can test the video game in advance with access via early access, Kickstarter/funding, or during events.
With the number of games available, it can quickly become overwhelming. That’s why we have created a small overview of games that are currently in intense development.
Legends of Aria – starting beta soon
What is Legends of Aria? Legends of Aria originated from the game Shards Online. It is a sandbox MMORPG where every player can forge their own path. The economy is heavily influenced by players, quests have no predetermined solution, and extremely experienced characters can become immortal gods.
What is the current state of development? Currently, the game offers a large world with two capitals where players can start their adventures. There are also open-world dungeons, five underground dungeons, and much more. The skill-based combat system gives every character access to abilities that allow for countless builds.
What is the alpha/beta status? The game is currently in the last alpha before the beta launch on Steam. This does not have a date yet, but it is expected to be soon. The current test runs until October 9.
Camelot Unchained – Sprint to beta
What is Camelot Unchained? In Camelot Unchained, fans of player-versus-player combat will get their money’s worth. The fantasy PvP MMO is set in the Arthurian legend and features sieges, massive battles, magic, and crafting. The focus is on group play with friends or large guilds to rebuild the shattered world while competing against rivals.
What is the current state of development? The game offers at least 21 races and at least 30 different classes for 3 factions, providing a solid foundation for well-organized brawls. The current development aims to deliver a smooth beta experience and is preparing for sieges and team play.
What is the alpha/beta status? Camelot Unchained is currently in a “sprint to beta”, which might even be playable in October. Previous tests have been limited to mass tests with hundreds of bots, so live tests are still pending.
Crowfall is gradually becoming the game it wants to be
What is Crowfall? The MMORPG Crowfall focuses primarily on free character development rather than open game development. 13 starter classes can be expanded into 3 ascension classes each. Even during character creation, advantages and disadvantages are chosen, and later disciplines unlock new skills, giving each character something unique. Through housing with a parcel system and vassalhood, entire kingdoms can be established.
What is the current state of development? Recently, Crowfall announced the latest race, the Stoneborn. Alongside an active combat system, resource harvesting is also active – it behaves like resource collection in survival games. Additionally, a siege system allows factions to claim castles or attack foreign castles.
What is the alpha/beta status? The game is constantly in testing phases. Supporters can still play the current one until the sixth of October! For the future, the first official campaign is planned.
Dauntless – already playable in closed beta
What is Dauntless? Dauntless is a kind of “Monster Hunter MMO” that fans of this series will enjoy. The game promises exciting battles against “Behemoths”, which require learning their attack patterns in a Dark Souls manner to ultimately protect the world from danger. Behemoths drain the aether, essentially the life from the world, which is why they must be brought down.
What is the current state of development? With four weapons available, players in the closed beta can embark on their hunt: axe, sword, gun-hammer, and chain blades. It becomes easier when you gather hunting companions and pursue monsters together. Veterans and danger seekers can, of course, also venture out alone.
What is the alpha/beta status? The game is currently in closed beta. The open beta has unfortunately been postponed by the developers. However, the roadmap provides a preview of what is to come.
The games mentioned are just a selection of online games in development that are currently making concrete progress.
