The Drow Minthara can be obtained in Baldur’s Gate 3 only if you commit really evil murders. But there is a trick to keep your hands clean.
In Baldur’s Gate 3 there are many cool companions. However, if you want a special Drow in your camp, you need to cause a real massacre beforehand. To help you sleep better, there is also a method where you don’t have to get your hands dirty.
Spoiler alert: This article deals with events from Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Minthara is a Drow who is devoted to the Cult of the Absolute. After all, she is a “True Soul” and thus infected with a parasite. At the beginning, she is directly allied with the enemy, namely the Goblins, who want to slaughter the Druid Grove and the refugees in the name of the Absolute.
If you want Minthara in your group, you need to act “evil.” You need to join the Goblins and then slaughter the Druid Grove and the refugees. Only then will Minthara come to your camp with her troops and throw a wild party and “claim your body for herself” – with everything that entails.
Some players have found a method to keep their conscience a bit cleaner. Because you don’t have to ensure that the Druids or refugees die yourself.
How does that work? In the refugee camp, the children will ask you to steal the idol of Sylvanus.
Once you steal the idol, a conflict begins. Because the Druids have been waiting for any reason to attack the refugees. Normally, you would now have to choose a side – either the Druids or the refugees. If you don’t want to deal with it, you can simply walk away and leave the scene.
In that case, the Druids and refugees will kill each other, and hardly anyone will be left alive.
Especially funny: If you’re playing a Paladin and are far away from the incident, you won’t even break your oath. Ignorance sometimes helps to avoid being an Oathbreaker.
After that, you can visit the Goblin camp and talk to Minthara. As “usual,” you will tell the Drow the location of the grove so she can begin her attack the next day to destroy the grove.
After a long rest, you will then realize: The battle is already over. The gate of the grove has been torn down, and Minthara has already finished her attack. She thanks you for apparently “cleaning up here” beforehand and that this is a great victory in the name of the Absolute.
What about Wyll and Karlach? Even though you are only indirectly responsible for the mass murder in the Emerald Grove in this scenario, Wyll and Karlach do not like that very much. They will leave your group – or not even join you. As it stands, it is still not possible to recruit Minthara while simultaneously having Karlach and Wyll in your party.
However, you can probably sleep with a significantly clearer conscience if you do not have the blood of the Druids and Tiefling refugees on your hands – even if the outcome is ultimately the same.
