Today, Baldur’s Gate 3 is released for PC (Steam, GOG). However, those who want to start the game will be greeted with a notification: Your Nvidia driver is outdated. If you want to prevent this, make sure to use the forced waiting time now.
What about the release of Baldur’s Gate 3?
- Since 5 PM on August 3rd, you can finally download the full version of Baldur’s Gate 3 for PC.
- Just in time for the launch, there are reports of slow downloads and issues with the Steam servers. Apparently, not everyone is affected.

This is what you should do now: Since there was no preload for Baldur’s Gate 3, you have to download the entire 122 GB right before playing. Depending on your connection, this may take several hours or even all night.
After that, you might be greeted by an annoying window saying that your graphics card driver is outdated. So make use of the time you have to wait anyway for another download:
- uninstall the Early Access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 and make sure to delete all save files first
- start the download for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam or GOG
- start GeForce Experience and check for the latest driver to install
- alternatively, visit Nvidia’s official website and manually get the driver
You do not have to restart your PC after installing the driver, if you are just installing the new version. Experience will take care of most steps for you.
Baldur’s Gate 3: The essentials for getting started
Once you have the latest graphics card driver and Baldur’s Gate 3 installed, you can dive straight into the RPG. Either create your own character or play as one of the “Origins” that follow a pre-designed story.
During character creation, you can choose one of the 11 races and pick one of 12 classes. Your choice can have implications on your gameplay as different classes and races can react differently in certain situations.
Basically, you can’t really do anything “wrong.” Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing game where your actions have specific consequences. Almost every playthrough is different, the game is said to have even 17,000 different endings.
For many fans, it is therefore important to go into the game with as little previous knowledge as possible and to discover the entire world for themselves.
