When is the break? The current chapters of the One Piece manga are released weekly in the Shonen Jump magazine. However, the people responsible recently announced that the manga will be on break for 3 weeks.
On social media, they explained that with the 18th issue of the magazine, the last chapter for now will be released. The subsequent chapter is expected to return in issue 21. After that, there will be a short break again because Golden Week begins in Japan. During this week, there are 4 public holidays, which is why most employees take time off.
The release schedule for the upcoming weeks is as follows:

- April 1: Break
- April 8: Break
- April 15: Break
- April 22: Chapter 1112
- April 29: Chapter 1113
- May 6: Break (Golden Week)
The anime is currently also set on Egghead Island. The airing of new episodes is independent of the manga’s release schedule, so there will be no break here.

“The biggest cliffhanger before the break”
What kind of cliffhanger is there? Dr. Vegapunk has been trying to share something with the whole world in One Piece since chapter 1108. He wants to reveal the truth about the world. As a scientist for the government, he possesses special knowledge that is actually not meant for the general public. This secret is likely one of the biggest secrets of the manga.
However, Dr. Vegapunk is waiting another 10 minutes so that people can prepare to follow his transmission. But these 10 minutes drag on until the latest chapter. So it could be that Dr. Vegapunk won’t have the chance to reveal this big secret even in chapter 1111.
Fans are therefore concerned that there could be the “probably biggest cliffhanger before the break” (via Twitter). Thus, Dr. Vegapunk may only get the chance to reveal this important message to the world in chapter 1112.
Why is there a break? There is no official indication as to why the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, needs this break. Perhaps he needs to process the death of his beloved mentor, Akira Toriyama, first. The break could allow him to regain strength and start the new chapter with a fresh head.
Alternatively, he may need to take time off for the Netflix series of One Piece. Filming for the second season is reportedly set to begin soon (via reddit). Oda was involved in the first season, so it could be that he needs another break for the second season to contribute to the design of the series.
Only after that can he take the time again for the One Piece manga.
