Many players hope to dive into their own MMORPG character when they start a new title. However, immersion doesn’t always happen as well as players wish. One title aims to change that.
What kind of MMORPG is this? Asteria: Fate of the Fallen is a “next-generation VR MMORPG” that promises a social and large-scale virtual world. So far, it has never succeeded in creating a truly large VR MMORPG, but that is supposed to change now.
Lead developer Noah Bazer has a clear vision for this. He wants to create the “next-generation VR MMORPG in anime style.” Asteria is meant to take players into a “colorful, anime-like medieval fantasy world” where they must also fight in reality thanks to motion controls.
While swinging your virtual sword in real life, there should also be magic in the form of runes that enchant enemies. Besides an immersive crafting system, the main highlights are expected to be social activities.

What social features are planned? Fighting in VR MMORPGs can be tiring over time, so Asteria also wants to offer other activities for players to enjoy. There will be the possibility to open your own shop to sell goods there.
Players will also be able to engage in sports together, possibly in the form of mini-games. Those who enjoy playing Sims can look forward to a housing system where players can design their own four walls.
The goal for Asteria is not power fantasy or the chosen one story, but rather the community task of rebuilding the players’ city and defending it against evil forces.
How far along is the MMORPG? The development of the MMORPG is not yet complete. Currently, a Kickstarter campaign is running, which has raised about 60,000 €. However, developer Noah Bazer emphasizes that “come what may, it will be released.”
However, the donation campaign is intended to accelerate the speed of the release, as the money can be used to hire more developers. Players can also unlock new features for the MMORPG as part of the campaign.
The campaign includes goals like guild halls, PvP duels, musical instruments, pets, and much more. The campaign runs until May 3, 2026, even though the base goal of 43,000 € was reached in less than 24 hours.
A new MMORPG for the VR world is rare. It will be particularly interesting to see whether the developers can really implement it or if the title will fail like many before it.
