Zack “Asmongold” is the largest MMORPG streamer on Twitch. He became known with WoW, but he has also shown games like Final Fantasy XIV and Lost Ark. Recently, he went quiet as he took a short break. Now he returns with a message to his fans – and clears up some things.
Who is Asmongold?
- Asmongold has been on Twitch since 2014 and with his over 3 million followers is the largest MMORPG streamer
- He became big with World of Warcraft, but in recent years he has shown other games – resulting in trouble with his fans
- The secret star in the background: his absolutely chaotic room, from which he even accepted his award as “best MMORPG streamer” in March
- He has often taken breaks, such as in autumn 2021 after his mother’s health issues and her subsequent passing
- In recent weeks, he has only streamed irregularly, now he returns with a message to his fans
More about Asmongold and his success story can be watched in the video:
Farewell to the legendary chaos room
This is what happened: On July 27, Asmon shocked his fans on Twitter by posting before-and-after shots of his room. For the first time in years, he cleaned up his room.
This is what the room is about: Among fans, the messy room has become a real meme. One fan even recreated the chaos in Final Fantasy XIV with great attention to detail – including the ubiquitous cups (via Reddit).
Some old videos from the years 2018 and 2019 still exist, in which Asmongold cleans his “cave” live on stream (via YouTube). However, since then, it seems he has not done much about it.
This is what the fans say: On Twitter, reactions are very positive. Many express their support and joy in the comments. They let him know that they understand and how proud they are of him.

Others cannot understand the excitement. Cleaning his room is completely normal. Some mock that the room is still dirty or even looked better before.
But it is not always laziness behind it: For people going through a tough time, even seemingly everyday tasks can become a significant challenge. And the longer one postpones it, the more unsolvable the problem can seem.
Many can probably identify with this, as the post has already received over 70,000 likes (as of July 28, 2022).
Asmongold’s message to the fans
This is behind the cleaning action: Asmongold’s streaming schedule is currently quite irregular, his last stream was on July 15, so almost 2 weeks ago. During this time, however, the Twitch star was not idle.
On July 25, he contacted his fans via Twitter. In the post, he said his life had been spiraling out of control for almost a year. Now he is taking steps to regain control.
This likely includes saying goodbye to the chaos. He thanked everyone who had reached out to him. His message: “For the first time in a long time, I’m okay.” Apparently, something has been wrong for a while (via Twitter).
This is also supported by a tweet from July 17, in which he announced he wanted to get his sleep schedule back on track. He usually sleeps only 4 hours a day and feels sick, but still streams (via Twitter).
To the fans’ delight, Asmongold also announced that he didn’t have enough of streaming or would take a longer break. He wants to return to streaming as soon as possible.
Other streamers also need a break. Recently, Twitch star Pokimane announced that she wanted to take a break for an indefinite period: Twitch burns out one of its biggest streamers: “I need a mental reset”.
