MeinMMO author Maik Schneider has tried many “Battle Royale” games before finding his favorite with Call of Duty: Warzone. However, as he looks at the current Season 2 of Fortnite, he is starting to doubt whether Warzone was the right choice.
Fortnite is starting its Season 2 of Chapter 3 with a somewhat controversial theme. However, I find it impressive not the new content, but rather what has been removed.
Fortnite has simply removed building from matches, and thus a core feature.
Some players see this as the loss of the unique selling point for the shooter – even if building will probably be back in the game soon, if the leaks are to be believed.
But the crazy cover mechanic is no longer the big unique selling point of Fortnite. It is the flexibility and the developers’ ability to regularly reinvent themselves and thus provide players with a unique dynamic.
CoD Warzone lines up one content drought after another
As a fan of Warzone, I can only try not to let my jaw drop too obviously. With almost every major update from Fortnite, I feel like I’m missing out on something special.
Who would have guessed when I sunk a few hundred hours into the game shortly after the release of Fortnite’s Battle Royale and then decided to call it quits?
The removal of the building mode has painfully reminded me of this. Fortnite is simply the best Battle Royale at the moment.
Instead of relying completely on an important core feature, it is simply removed from the game, and yet millions of players want to be on the servers.
This shows once again: It is not the building that defines Fortnite. It is this “There is always something new” mantra. And I am so damn envious of that. Want some examples? Here you go:

Live concerts in the game, superhero nonsense, crazy events for almost every new season.
And in Warzone? There was the action heroes event with Rambo and John McClane (Die Hard) as a highlight. Plus the reveal events of the new CoDs and the Halloween shenanigans. There’s hardly anything more to say about that.

I personally found building in Fortnite always very exciting and had a lot of fun with it. However, it would not be a reason for me to switch Battle Royales. That is more due to the updates and the variety.
With each new season, I get closer to a renewed download. Every crazy idea that the Epic team brings to mechanics and story is slowly but surely luring me back.
So, if a highly motivated no-skin takes you out soon, it may well be that Fortnite has me back, whether with or without building.
