Basilosaurus – The Deep-Sea All-Rounder
The Basilosaurus is extremely practical when you want to explore the deep sea. It is also passively tamed and is often found near coasts. However, you should watch out for the mantas that like to surround a Basilosaurus. They will probably attack you.
The special strength of the Basilosaurus is based on its unique ability: it cannot be influenced by the shocks of the Electrophorus (eels) or the attacks of the Cnidarias (jellyfish) and is also strong enough to handle most hazards of the sea.
If you explore the underwater world on creatures other than the Basilosaurus, the attacks from jellyfish and eels will knock you off your mounted underwater creature, making you an easy target.
Argentavis – The Flying All-Rounder
The Argentavis was already one of the most useful and popular creatures in ASE and is considered a true jack-of-all-trades. With its enormous carrying capacity and solid stamina, the Argentavis is perfectly suited for transporting loads of resources – for example, if you want to return to your base from a long farming trip.
This is further enhanced by the fact that the Argentavis can carry small and medium-sized creatures like an Ankylosaurus, a Castoroides (beaver), or a Doedicurus. In addition, the Argentavis is useful in battle as it inflicts decent damage and heals itself when mining a carcass.
You tame the Argentavis with meat. You need to knock it out in battle and then feed it kibble, meat, or fish. Already in ASE, players used self-built traps to facilitate the taming of an Argentavis.
Daeodon – Dr. Pig
The Daeodon is a pig-like mammal that is often taken into boss fights. I personally like to call the Daeodon Dr. Pig because it is a classic healer in ARK.
With its ability, the Daeodon can heal allied survivors and creatures, but it uses up massive amounts of food in the process. So you should have plenty of meat when using the healing powers of our grunting doctor.
The Daeodon is also classically tamed in battle. Knock it out and then feed it meat or appropriate kibble.
Rex – The King of Boss Fights
The Tyrannosaurus rex has been the top choice in many boss fights for years in ASE and was one of the strongest dinos in the game. In ASA, the T-rex also fills the role of the boss-slayer well. This is mainly due to the really good health and damage values of the T-rex.
While its size is an advantage for the well-known dino and gives it an edge in battles, its lack of speed and clumsiness is a significant disadvantage. Especially the turning radius of the T-rex resembles that of a truck.
If you want to tame a T-rex, you cannot do so without force. You must knock it out and feed it meat or kibble.
Honorable Mentions
There are still some creatures in ARK: Survival Ascended that could also appear on this list. We would like to mention a few of them here as “honorable mentions,” but we will only briefly touch on their useful properties and not go into detail.
- Yutyrannus – The Howler: can buff you and your creatures with its loud roar in battles (particularly helpful in boss fights)
- Megatherium – The Exterminator: becomes an extremely strong damage dealer (+250% Dmg) for 120 seconds after killing an insect due to its “Insect Killer” ability and farms a lot of useful chitin when killing insects.
- Stegosaurus – The PvP Tank: has three different armor types that provide various advantages depending on the situation, making the Stego a strong dino in PvP.
- Rhyniognatha – The Transport Helicopter: is incredibly strong and can even grab a T-rex or a vault and fly away with it. It is also useful in combat.
- Baryonyx – The Explorer: is a medium-sized mount that has solid agility both on land and in water and is quite useful in combat. It is thus suitable for exploring the map, especially caves.
- Thylacoleo – The Cuddly Cat: climbs the massive redwood trees, pounces down on you from above, and cuddles you to death. As a mount, the Thylacoleo is quite fast and agile and causes a kind of bleeding damage with its bite.
- Mammoth – The Wood King: is very useful for wood farming, as the weight of wood in the mammoth’s inventory is significantly reduced, allowing it to carry more.
The roar of a Yutyrannus may not help gain more FPS in ARK: Survival Ascended, but it does provide these settings: ARK: Survival Ascended: Performance – With these graphic settings, the game runs smoother
