With the fourth official expansion Genesis for the dino hit ARK: Survival Evolved, two features are being added to the game that have never existed before. The mission design and the in-game currency Hexagons. We will tell you what it is all about.
Studio Wildcard has redesigned the Steam page for ARK Genesis and offers new information about the upcoming expansion. Insights into the newly introduced mission design and the in-game currency Hexagons reveal that Genesis will be different from everything before.
ARK Genesis introduces missions
On the official Steam page for the Genesis expansion, initial information about the missions has appeared. The drone HLN-A is said to serve as a holographic guide, providing a wide range of missions. The first known missions sound varied and curious:
- Shooting down enemy waves with power-ups.
- Escort missions for baby dinos.
- Tracking and hunting powerful bosses.
- Dino racing.
- Dodo basketball.
The developers talk about even more missions that are currently unknown. They are primarily intended to advance the story of ARK.
This is curious: Especially the dino racing and dodo basketball could lead to curious rounds in Genesis. The YouTuber EGriff already played basketball with Dodos in 2018:
Whether we actually throw the poor Dodos into baskets or whether they will be sent onto the field as players remains to be seen after the release on February 26. The dino race should be self-explanatory, so better level up your favorites’ speed.
Hexagons are the first in-game currency
For completing missions, you will receive Hexagons. A type of in-game currency that is being introduced to the game for the first time with Genesis. Additionally, you can fix disturbances that arise in the world, for which you will also be rewarded with Hexagons. However, the Steam description does not specify what kind of disturbances these are.
You can use Hexagons to
- Purchase additional resources.
- Obtain TEK items.
- Travel between environments.
According to Wildcard, there will also be more ways to spend Hexagons. Whether missions and fixing disturbances are the only ways to obtain the currency remains to be seen. The Hexagons sound like the first step towards a microtransaction shop, but they could also simply be rare resources.
