The Giant Turtle is probably the most distinctive creature in the “ARK Genesis” expansion. However, the Megachelon is not so easy to tame; we will tell you where to find it and what you need to do.
The Megachelon, better known as the Giant Turtle in ARK Genesis, is among the new dinosaurs a favorite of players. This is mainly because you can build a base on it and still breathe underwater. Its flat shell releases oxygen and is perfect for a mobile underwater base.
Where to find the Giant Turtle
The Giant Turtle is found in the new Ocean Biome, where you can easily teleport with your drone HLN-A. The exact location does not matter, as the Megachelon swims leisurely around in the water. Thanks to its size, you can hardly miss it.

How to tame the Megachelon
There are several ways to tame the Giant Turtle. For example, through stunning. However, since the turtle’s resistance is very high, this is a lengthy endeavor. Another method is more promising, through passive taming.
This is what you need:
- A diving gear
- A weapon that can be used underwater; harpoon or machete
- Optionally a dino. For example, a Megalodon
You need the diving gear to hold your breath underwater as long as possible. We will discuss the other two items later.
This is how you start: Once you have found a Giant Turtle, dive deep and look for a microbe swarm. These small aggressive fish will chase you, so pay attention to the corresponding status message at the top of the screen.
Swim back to the Giant Turtle with the swarm, and it will start to eat the swarm. You can already see that the taming process is underway.
What to consider?
Taming takes quite some time. During this time, it is your job to keep all hostile creatures like Megalodons and eels away from the turtle. It is best to use not only a suitable weapon but also your own Megalodon, which snatches up approaching creatures quickly.
If the turtle is attacked or you accidentally hit it yourself, the entire process will restart. So be careful and watch your surroundings.
How to craft the right saddle
After successfully taming and naming the Giant Turtle, you do not need a saddle to ride it, but it is still recommended. The saddle allows other players to sit on the turtle without being thrown off underwater.
You can unlock the saddle at level 45. It costs you 35 engram points. Afterwards, you can craft it at a smithy if you have the following materials:
- 28 cement
- 260 fibers
- 312 leather
- 76 metal ingots
- 22 shell fragments
- 42 silica pearls
Where to find shell fragments: Of the materials, only the shell fragments are new. You obtain them by defeating a Giant Turtle and collecting its resources.
If you follow these steps, you can claim the mobile underwater base as your own and also walk around on land with it. Which creatures have you already tamed in Genesis?
