The Moeder is not only the first boss in ARK Genesis Part 1, but also the first underwater boss ever. It presents a great challenge, and we will tell you how to defeat it.
The Moeder is a massive, eel-like creature in the ocean biome of ARK: Genesis. It is the strongest underwater dinosaur in ARK and the largest creature in Genesis. We will tell you where to find the underwater boss, what precautions you should take, and how to defeat it.
Prepare for the Fight
Proper preparation is crucial for this fight. The entire boss battle takes place underwater, and there are no air pockets.
Bring the following items:
- Diving Suit: To breathe underwater
- Medical Brew: To quickly restore your health points
These dinosaurs are helpful:
- 1 Megachelon: Equipped with a saddle, the Giant Tortoise can produce air and serves as an emergency solution when you run out of breath.
- A few X-Mosasauruses: They have very high stats and can be equipped with a TEK saddle to shoot the boss from a distance.
- A few X-Megalodons: Can be equipped with a TEK saddle to shoot at enemies.
Train your dinosaurs to have sufficient health; the Mosasaurs should ideally have 30,000 to 50,000 health points. The Megalodons can remain at about 7,000 to 10,000. However, be prepared for some of your dinosaurs to die.
Here You Find the Moeder Boss
The underwater boss does not just swim around anywhere in the ocean biome. Instead, you need to find a mission terminal and teleport yourself to the boss arena. You will find the terminal at position 39.4 – 52.0.
You can easily find the terminal if you command your drone HLN-A to show the position of the mission “One Tough Moeder”.
Boss Details and Battle Progression
The Stats of Moeder
You can fight the boss in 3 difficulty levels:
- Gamma
- Beta
- Alpha
It is recommended to start at the Gamma level. The higher the level, the higher the health points and damage of Moeder.
- Gamma: 490,000 health points | 180 base damage
- Beta: 686,000 health points | 360 base damage
- Alpha: 960,400 health points | 520 base damage
In comparison, an Alpha T-Rex has a base damage of 170, while a Giganotosaurus has a value of 1000.
This is How the Moeder Boss Fight Goes
Moeder essentially has 2 phases that alternate constantly:
- Phase 1: Moeder minions appear and attack you. Meanwhile, Moeder is invulnerable and hides
- Phase 2: Once all minions are eliminated, Moeder appears and attacks
The Moeder minions are thick eels that will heat you up with their electric shocks. If you ride a dinosaur, you will still take damage from the shocks. It is best to defeat them from a distance. The Megalodons and Mosasaurs with their TEK saddles are suitable for this.
Once the minions are defeated, Moeder will emerge from her hole and attack in close combat. Occasionally, she spits out electric orbs that you should dodge. Moeder herself has a large hitbox and moves slowly. You can also lure her behind you and continually attack her from a distance.
The two phases alternate regularly, and a whirlpool occasionally appears. If you get caught in it, you will be thrown around and take damage.
If you run out of air, move to the Giant Tortoise that you leave somewhere at the edge of the arena. It is best to bring two diving tanks anyway to be prepared.
ARK TEK – These Are Your Rewards
If you defeat Moeder, you will receive a lot of Hexagon as a mission reward, the currency in ARK Genesis. You will also unlock various TEK equipment:
- Gamma: TEK Generator | TEK Trough | TEK Sensor
- Beta: TEK Gloves | TEK Boots | TEK Helmet
- Alpha: TEK Teleporter | TEK Force Field | TEK Grenade Launcher
The Moeder can also drop various items, such as an Astrocetus TEK saddle, which you need for the Space Whale.
