There is a glimmer of hope for everyone who has (pre)ordered a PS5 from MediaMarkt, Saturn, or other retailers and still hasn’t received it. Soon, your PlayStation 5 could finally be delivered.
The current situation regarding numerous PS5 orders: Currently, the PS5 is still sold out in Germany. It is not just difficult to nearly impossible to secure a console right now – thousands of “successful” buyers are still waiting for their next-gen console even in the second half of January. Some have already pre-ordered and paid back in September 2020, for example, at Saturn or MediaMarkt, yet are still left without a concrete delivery date.
However, there could finally be movement in this whole matter soon.
Still waiting for your PS5 order? Here’s what you should know
New PS5 supplies are expected next week: According to the website Gameswirtschaft, European retailers are expected to receive new PS5 allocations next week (starting January 25th, so calendar week 4). A large portion of these is intended for the German, Swiss, and Austrian markets. Most of that should be reserved for outstanding orders.
Whether this will actually be enough for all the waiting buyers remains to be seen. However, this should still be good news for everyone who is still waiting for their PS5 order. MediaMarkt and Saturn, among others, already committed at the end of 2020 to prioritize the delivery for waiting (pre)orderers. The same applies to some other providers who still have outstanding orders to fulfill.
However, this is rather bad news for anyone hoping to buy or order a PS5 at the beginning of the year. Since the amount for the outstanding orders is deducted, only small quantities of the PS5 are expected to go on sale from next week. As reported by Gameswirtschaft, some retailers have already hinted that they expect either no or only minimal quantities for that reason.
More on this can be found here: PS5 buying: Rumors spoke of supply this week – What’s the update?
And in retail, you shouldn’t even look for the PS5 – It is unlikely that the console will be available there for the foreseeable future.
Gameswirtschaft is considered well-informed and apparently has insider contacts, which is why their assessments and predictions are mostly accurate.
When could the PlayStation 5 be delivered again? According to reports, neither MediaMarkt nor Saturn wanted to comment on the start of deliveries upon request. However, other sources have been more specific according to Gameswirtschaft.
If nothing changes in the current schedule (everything would depend on Sony’s punctuality), the new PS5 consoles should be delivered to retailers in a few days and then shipped to waiting customers from calendar week 4 (January 25th to 31st), or made available for local pickup at MediaMarkt and Saturn.
So if you are still waiting for an ordered PS5, you should start checking your emails or your account with the respective retailer more intensively starting next week at the latest. Perhaps you will soon finally have your new PlayStation 5 in your hands. We at MeinMMO are keeping our fingers crossed for you all.
