At ArcheAge , the issues from last weekend and the “Hero Awakening” patch have now been explained. Compensation packages have also been introduced.
Scott Hartsman, the head of Trion Worlds, discussed the background of the chaos over the weekend in an interview. The relaunch planned for Saturday did not work. The login servers crashed. 90% of players could not access the servers, and would not have been able to participate in the important relaunch and distribution of building plots.
The team turned to the emergency plan, took the servers down, performed a rollback, and reset the servers. The relaunch had to be postponed in Europe by 16 hours and in the United States by 24 hours. What was the reason for this?
ArcheAge likely victim of an external attack
Hartsman stated:
The preparation went absolutely smoothly, it was a huge effort, over 6 months of work, a 50-point checklist was worked through, a team from Korea was there – everything went perfectly. Everything was done to ensure that this launch worked. All problems that could arise in such a complex game like ArcheAge and such a comprehensive operation had been identified and addressed beforehand.
At the start, “anomalies” were noticed that turned out to be more serious than initially thought. They caused the launch to fail.
Hartsman suggests that he believes this could be an “attack” from outside. He refers to it as “external load.” But he is not yet ready to make that official. Investigations and confirmations are needed for that.
However, Hartsman admits that it was “too ambitious” to launch US and EU at the same time and then all servers at once. They wanted to create fair conditions for everyone, but it was more than they could handle.
Hartsman assures that they have learned from the events. They are now better prepared for “external Load.”
