In Anthem, there will initially be no content for large groups – At least not at launch.
New tidbits of information about Anthem: Since EA’s presentation at E3 2018, new information about Anthem has been surfacing gradually. The lead producer Mark Darrah is hosting an ongoing QA on his Twitter account about the online shooter. Recently, he revealed more about multiplayer.
Anthem will initially stick to 4-player co-op: The online shooter is designed for 1-4 players. All content can thus be tackled either solo or in PvE co-op with three other players. A fan asked the producer if there would be PvE content for larger groups than four players.
Mark Darrah answered the question with: “Not at launch.”
Will there be content for large groups in the future?
What does “not at launch” mean in this case? Anthem is still in development. There are contents that may become relevant in the future, but they are not promised. “Not at launch” tends more towards “Anything can happen, but nothing is guaranteed”.
If there were already concrete plans or developed content for large groups, Darrah would certainly have phrased his answer accordingly.
What could large raids look like in Anthem? Anthem is supposed to have a large, interactive world where players can move freely. Additionally, the developers at BioWare announced that they are planning regular events.
A system similar to Defiance could be conceivable. Here, there are dynamic events that every player sees on the map. Large groups take down raid bosses and mobs. Something like that could also work in Anthem.
Anthem gets Strongholds for four players: The particularly tough challenges in Anthem will be the so-called “Strongholds” – fortresses inhabited by particularly tough enemies. The Strongholds are designed for groups of up to four players. It should not even be possible to enter them with fewer players.
These will be the raids and dungeons of Anthem.
Random enemies are supposed to provide variety
Anthem is getting surprising elements: Darrah confirmed that Anthem will feature randomly appearing enemies. What exactly these enemies are is still uncertain. Presumably, regularly new foes will come to the online shooter for players to battle.
