The team from World of Warcraft has lost another important person. The story writer Christie Golden is no longer with Blizzard.
A few months ago, we reported that there had been some layoffs after Microsoft acquired Blizzard. It mainly affected members of the Overwatch team, but some developers of World of Warcraft are also affected.
We were not aware of the termination of a rather prominent person: Christie Golden. The story writer is also no longer with Blizzard.
Who is Christie Golden? Most Blizzard fans probably know Christie Golden primarily for her novels. Over the past 25 years, she has written many stories for various Blizzard universes. Whether it was the book “Thrall” or the bestseller novel “Arthas” – Golden has shaped many of the important characters of Warcraft, giving them much more life than what is possible in an MMORPG like World of Warcraft.
She was not only bound to Blizzard but also wrote novels for other franchises, such as Star Wars, Halo, or Assassin’s Creed.
For the last six years, she was directly employed by Blizzard as part of the “Story & Franchise Development Team” until she was terminated in January.
What did Golden do at Blizzard? During her time as a direct employee at Blizzard in the last six years, Golden was responsible for several things. She wrote the scripts for most in-game cinematics of Battle for Azeroth, as well as many of the interactions between Anduin and Sylvanas in Shadowlands. The short film “Afterlife: Maldraxxus” also largely originated from Golden’s pen.
Why is this only coming to light now? Christie Golden faced several strokes of fate at the same time. Not only was she laid off from Blizzard on January 26, but the day after, her nephew also died of cancer. Golden has now explained on Twitter/X that she withdrew from the public for a while to reflect and go through “soul searching.”
Therefore, she only spoke about these events now, about three months later.
Even though not all of Golden’s stories were always well received by fans, she has greatly contributed to the fact that many of Warcraft’s popular characters are now so well developed.
You should farm something else “golden” – because you need 3 million gold in the new WoW expansion.
