Last Epoch was released in 2024 and has to assert itself against tough competition in the form of Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2. Upcoming updates could significantly improve the game.
How is Last Epoch doing? The ARPG from developer Eleventh Hour Games was released in its full version on February 21, 2024, and was seen as a hope in the ARPG genre. However, 2024 was not short of major titles in this genre.
Diablo 4 continued to make headlines, among other things with the highly anticipated expansion Vessel of Hatred. And then there was of course Path of Exile 2, which launched in December and immediately caused a stir. The incredibly complex game fascinates and divides the community.
Last Epoch got a bit overshadowed. Player numbers fluctuated, and shortly after release, the game lost many fans. Nonetheless, the game continued to receive updates. The developers also have some innovations planned for the game in 2025, which are intended to improve it on one hand, and attract new players on the other.
Updates bring new challenges
What is planned for 2025? As noted in the developer blog, quite a lot will happen in Last Epoch in the new year. The developers are not resting on their laurels; they want to further improve their game to compete with the competition.
Specifically, players can expect the following in 2025:
- Improvements for the endgame content Monolith of Fate
- Improvements in dungeons with unique reward systems for items
- New enemy types
- New endgame bosses
- New echoes to explore
- New waypoints to the bazaar and observatory: This way, these locations can be visited early without skipping the campaign
- The Sentinel class is to be revised and adjusted to fit the other classes
- Improvements for gamepad controls
- Numerous bugs are to be fixed
With all these and probably even more updates, the developers of Last Epoch want not only to improve the game but also to keep it alive. In some aspects, the ARPG is currently ahead of its competitors.
For example, thanks to quality-of-life improvements, the campaign can be completed fairly quickly when replaying. This is currently a criticism point for Path of Exile 2, whose campaign is very long.
In general, Last Epoch is also more accessible than Path of Exile 2 and could therefore be the better, simpler choice for newcomers to the genre. Did you already test the game in early 2024?
