Developers have paid fans to create mods for EVE Frontier. In total, it is about 80,000 USD that has been paid to various individuals. Modifications are explicitly allowed in the world of EVE Frontier.
What kind of game is this? Eve Frontier is a survival MMO set in the same universe as the well-known MMO EVE: Online and comes from the same developers, CCP Games. Eve Frontier is still in development and is a Buy2Play title. This means you have to spend about 40 Euros for the cheapest starter access.
A special feature of the game is its focus on mods. EVE Frontier uses blockchain technology to enable server-side modding. Mods are intended to apply not only to a single player but to all individuals on the server. How these modifications work in EVE Frontier can be read on MeinMMO.
CCP Games distributes a total of 80,000 USD to modification developers
What has been awarded now? The developers announced a mod contest around Eve Frontier and put up a prize pool of a total of 80,000 USD (about 68,000 Euros). This was the so-called EVE Frontier Hackathon 2026.
Recently, according to PCGamer, the winners from CCP Games were selected: The winner, CradleOS, received 25,000 dollars for their modification (which is actually a tool), while the remaining 55,000 dollars were distributed among the other winners:
- CradleOS: A custom user interface and a system for managing, coordinating, and controlling resources and territories in the game, complemented by a story set in the universe about a mysterious AI.
- Blood Contract: A bounty system that allows PvP quests to be created for other players.
- Civilization Control: A similar but seemingly less extensive user interface for managing territories and assets in Frontier, focusing on permissions for space structures like gates or automated turrets.
How can you try/install the mods? Unlike other games, where you have to download and then install mods externally, here modifications are directly integrated into the game’s infrastructure. Players can interact with, use, or build upon the systems created by others in the game world. The system is called Smart Assemblies, and you can find more information about it directly on the manufacturer’s website.
The developers of Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss, recently sold the studio behind the sci-fi MMO EVE Online – to the studio itself. However, it did not really pay off for Pearl Abyss. The sale is reported to have resulted in a million-dollar loss. You can read more about it on MeinMMO: Developer of Crimson Desert sells its huge sci-fi MMO, resulting in million-dollar loss
